“"Beach side property"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

There are quite a number of cottages facing the south china sea and only about 100 meters from it. The cottages are attractive comfortable , but merely adequate , a refrigerator and overhead fan would make life more appealing . The dining area has a great atmosphere and attractive decor , the food is excellent , the chef being of high class standard , the drinks reasonably priced but could be lowered . On the downside were the myriad of Sandflies which beset us day and night , they were immune to all types of repellent , the management would be well advised to supply an adequate repellent at low cost to make the guests more comfortable . There is much to do around the area it is attractive and the people very friendly . I would recommend Palm Beach as a place to holiday for a few days , great beach walks , safe swimming , romantic evenings on the restaurant verandah watching the sunset .

Room Tip: Choose the cottages facing the Ocean.

A bit from away from the town but a good place for getaway. Still can say it is a good place to relax. The beach is ok almost can say as good as Penang island. Although the pool a bit crowded with day trip guests but still can be consider as ok too. Can visit the marine department near by for some info about the fishing village. Or even can travel to the small town of lundu for a visit to the near by beaches such as Siar beach and Pandan beach. I give this resort as average worth the value and money you pay but don't expect too much as this is a standard resort if compared to any high class resorts.

This review is not based on staying, simply a stop off for a drink.

The eating/drink area was quite spacious and the tables overlooking the beach and pool were a good spot for a relaxing drink. Pool looked busy with other day trippers, could see how this might irritate paying overnight staying guests. Overall, a nice enough place for a cold drink - staff pleasant and prices reasonable.

Simple wooden two story huts overlooking the south china sea - beautiful.
Our family found the accommodation & grounds very comfortable and relaxed. The restaurant has well cooked food, especially loved the Thai style noodle salad with chilli and coriander.
The beach is not brilliant for swimming - very tidal, however the pool is beautiful. Ocean good for swimming off side of boat or at nearby national parks. The sandfly's come and go in the late afternoon but only around the beach and pool not near the huts. Bring strong mozzie repellent and long sleeves and it won't be an issue.
Note: the accommodation is 40min walk out of town and they do not supply transport. We hitched and felt safe. You could bike or ask if any of the staff are going in to town and tip them.

Sematan is a lovely quiet fishing village. Super friendly locals, great food and beautiful water front. Chat to the local fishermen to organize your boat trip for the day - they know the sea and have life jackets. Eat lunch at sea view cafe, owned by Susie, she cares about fresh produce and cooking delicious food for her guests.

National parks are great for seeing turtle hatcheries (green sea turtle), monkeys, wild pig, and much more... Including the famous rafflesia flower if you lucky!

We loved Sematan and feel privilege to have visited - the locals should be proud of their beautiful surrounds.

Room Tip: Choose the colorful huts (chalets) on the water.

A very nice place to relax your mind. The food is okay. You can rent the bike to cycle to the town if you like. The location is great. This place won't let you down.

This resort is clean, well kept and peaceful. The beach view is spectacular and we were very comfortable in our chalet. We traveled there as a group of friends and enjoyed sitting out on the deck of chalet, enjoyed some drinks and chatting! Nice infinity pool, great low ledge for relaxing in the not-so-cool water! Unfortunatley there were too many jellyfish on the beach for any swimming while we visited.

Dinner buffet had mostly local Malaysian food but was tasty and fresh. Breakfast, not as great. Not much choice and most food was cold and not fresh even though we went to breakfast only 30 minutes after it began.

This resort isn't anything fancy but most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. We hired bicycles from the reception but wasn't given much information about what was worth riding too. Luckily it was enjoyable enough to ride along the road to the kampung.
