“Great place for a stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Just a one night stay on Saturday 3rd November 2012. This was my first visit. Chosen simply because of the location (quiet) and far enough, but not too far, away from the motorway. Great food in the evening and a quiet and comfy night. Breakfast was as requested (eggs and beans only) and just fine for me. I like the pub grub and friendly atmosphere.

It is the nature of the place that the bedrooms are a bit small, I had to lean over to shave since the ceiling was in the way. Nevertheless it was great for me and I am likely to make another stop in the future.

We have been using The Peacock for sometime now to hold our week long residential training courses. From me, this is one of the best venues we have used for many different reasons.

Martin and his team are always ever so helpful, making sure that at all times everything is good. For every course we have run, every delegate has given us great feedback about the venue, it's service, the food and the accomodation. Nothing is ever a challenge or a problem.

The conference room we use is also fully equipped (large wall mounted TV, Projector, Flipcharts etc) and ideal. Also has great views out to the fields and Chiltern Hills.

Once again, thank you to Martin and the team for a great week.

We were there for two nights in October 2012, booked in as part of a wedding party. We had room 24, which was a bit plain, in need of some pictures or something to brighten it up, otherwise it was quite OK, in fact, for the price it was more than adequate. The main building too shows signs of amateur decoration and repair, but was spacious, clean and comfortable.

We stayed for an evening meal on the first night and it was excellent. I had steak, the wife had lasagne and we both commented favourably on the quality of the meal. Quite a good menu list to choose from.

Breakfast was comprehensive, fresh cooked, with waitress service, rather than buffet style. Excellent, and included in the accommodation price.

The Peacock is located at the end of a long dead end lane, but within a few miles are some excellent walks and drives. The surrounding area is mostly farmland. We were always aware of large Red Kites flying overhead, some of which came quite close, giving us a fabulous display of flying. It seems this area of Oxfordshire must have most of the UK population of Kites and The Peacock has attracted many of them.

Highly recommended, excellent value.

Room Tip: I think the lower numbered rooms (1-10??) have been more recently upgraded.

Lovely quiet secluded location, Staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Room was very clean and tidy. I would recommend to friends and family. The only one criticism would be the walls are a little thin and I could here the man next door either playing a trumpet badly or he was snoring all night so if a passionate weekend is what your after you may want to look else where unless you don't mind raised eyebrows at breakfast.. Happy Days....

Room Tip: Ask for a room with no neighbours

We so needed a weekend break away from it all where our 15yr old dog, Meg would be welcome too. The Peacock Inn provided as close to heaven as I can imagine possible! Set in peaceful Henton with beautiful views of the Chilterns hills, the location was perfect for walking and unwinding. The inn had a good selection of real ales and wine to compliment an impressive menu & I've only ever known such a good selection of vegetarian dishes in a specialist restaurant. The room was lovely, spacious enough to accommodate Meg who settled immediately and was invited to join us in the bar for all our meals. This was much appreciated as she likes to be with us all the time now and dogs are genuinely welcomed. Martin & his team do an exceptional job & all of us can't to go back.

Room Tip: If you have a dog, let them know. We were offered ground floor room at end of corridor by unalarmed...

In May I wrote a review after we had a bad evening - we returned last weekend and I have to say, we had a toltally brilliant stay! I wanted to write another review as I really think that our experience was a one off and that the other reviews are good relections of the hotel. Again we had a good room, large with its own little sitting area and an amazing jacuzzi bath, the only down side was that it did not have the brilliant view over the fileds - I encourage you to speak to the staff on booking and saying if you would like a view, 4 poster etc as they will do all that they can to help. This time out meal was fantastic, on the Friday when we arrived I was a little worried to order food after our last experience but I was proved wrong, we had a lovely sharing platter in the pub area which was really realxed. The following evening we had a 'propper' meal and I had a fantastic duck breast, rare and tender with a good bottle of wine, my husband really enjoyed his risotto. The service this time was brilliant and Martin and Tammy were allways around for us and all the other guests. This is not a fancy hotel, but a small friendly Inn which made us feel special and cared for. I will be returning!

Room Tip: If you want a view of the fields ask for one, the four poster is down stairs but has the great jacuz...
