“The friendliest and most helpful member of staff in a long time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Stayed here on a Sunday night ahead of an important business meeting and arrived feeling less than energised at travelling on a Sunday. However, the greeting from the young woman on the reception desk soon changes that. She was smiling, warm and friendly. Offered to help us to our room and help with our luggage and then when we discovered we were missing a printed copy of an important document she printed this out for us.A huge relief for us.Next morning there she was again bright and early and still smiling-thank you.

As well as this the room was large, comfy bed everything needed for a good nights sleep. Restaurant was recovering from Mothers Day lunch time so menu was a little more limited than usual but the steak and chips option was still a good one.

Give how handy this hotel for Oxford and the M40 (Junction 6 just about in view across the fields) would definitely return.

We have just arrived back from our weekend at the Lambert Arms and have had a great stay! We arrived Friday afternoon and had a warm welcome from reception. All the staff were happy to answer questions and offered to go the extra mile to answer queries that they were unsure of.

That afternoon we went to the bar beer prices were as expected, but we found the price of a glass of wine a little steep (around £7.50 for a large glass). This is probably OK if you are not on a budget, but other than that the prices were what you would expect.

The room was warm, clean, comfortable and extremely quiet! The rooms have everything you need. An iron was also provided upon request.

We had an evening meal in the restaurant and it was fantastic. The head waiter was really welcoming and was happy to recommend dishes etc all staff in the restaurant were helpful and gave a great service! The food was lovely! Unfortunately was too full to have desserts :-( but they came highly recommended by the waiter.

Breakfast on both mornings was also lovely. Plenty of choice and again good service.

The location is fine if you want to drive to places, which we didn't, but we were advised by the staff in the bar about the Oxford Tube located about a 10 minute walk away. This is a coach service which takes you directly to Oxford City Centre. The journey was approx 30 mins and cost £6.00 for a return which was excellent value.
The walk to the stop from the hotel is alongside a main road and is not paved all the way. Walking back at night was obviously very dark as there is no street lighting. The receptionist (Sarah? who was very friendly and helpful) warned us about this before we left so we were not surprised on the way back.

We would definitely stay at the Lambert Arms again, as I have mentioned all the staff were great and provided a comfortable atmosphere for the guests and locals alike.

Dear Laura B

Thank you for such a nice review,I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that the whole team looked after you both so well,we do pride ourselves on going that extra mile and it really does make a difference.

Many people stay and are not aware of the Oxford tube service that runs regularly to both Oxford and London, this enables people to relax and not worry about driving. It is a little walk and it is dark at night however I am pleased that Sarah advised this to you.
I am equally pleased that your experience in our restaurant was enjoyable along with the food, which Chef and his team pride themselves on.

Laura once again thank you for your comments which I have thanked my team for,and I do hope we will see you again soon.

Kind Regards

Just wanted to say that we had a really lovely weekend at the Lambert Arms last weekend. On the Saturday we had a tribute act dinner/dance evening for family and special friends which was an excellent. The food served during the three course dinner was superb. Our room at the Hotel was really nice and in fact several family and friends who stayed at the hotel on the Saturday said how pleased they were with the accomodation provided. On the Sunday evening we had a meal in the Hotel restaurant for just our immediate family and again the food was Superb. Over the weekend the staff were helpful and attentive and made the weekend really special.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Just returned from 3 night visit to Lambert Arms. Was disappointed that breakfast was not included in the price of the room. I'm not sure if it is normally-we had the third night free on an offer but at the normal price of £75.00 per night I feel it should be. For another £10 each for breakfast the room wouldn't offer good value for money so we didn't have breakfast and can't comment on that. The welcome was OK but the reception area was behind the bar which felt a little unprofessional and it was not clear where to go to check in. It wasn't the best first impression as I don't personally like dealing with bar staff who were talking to me as well as a receptionist when going through the check in procedure. It wasn't very professional.
Room 220 was large and basic but pleasant in the new block around the back of the inn. I would recommend you book a premiere/superior room as if you have a standard double you will be above the inn and not in the new part which I can imagine would be quite noisy when events are on. Bed was quite small and in my opinion not a king sized as it was very uncomfortable for two people. The lino floor in the bathroom was black with dirt ingrained in which felt a bit icky with bare feet and didn't really like going in there. It could do with a good scrub but generally cleanliness was good apart from this. The shower was a let down as the water was only ever luke warm. If you tried to adjust it slightly either way, the water went burning hot or freezing cold so not very enjoyable. Also had to wrestle with the toilet flush button which was very stiff and took a lot of effort to press in! The room was also very dark due to heavy wood furniture and it's location. Although it was sunny it felt dull in there. There was complimentary water and tea/coffee making facilities which was as you would expect for 4*. The TV had a very off green glint to it which meant it was hard to watch but of course you don't really go away to watch TV but it could do with looking at.
The nice thing about the complex was that you could come and go as you pleased to the car park without going through inn/restaurant so you were left very much to yourselves and sometimes we hardly saw anyone which was nice to get away from it all. During the night there was a sound like a cement mixer or washing machine not sure if from room next door or outside but this was a bit off putting and what with the small bed didn't sleep very well any night. The gym was very good and empty both times I used it. It has running machines, rower, weights, basic but good quality equipment and very clean. I don't imagine it gets that busy but if it did it might be a bit cramped. Dined in the pub one night and it was very pleasant, lovely food, very good service, very enjoyable. On our first night we ordered room service and the chef was very accommodating making us something that wasn't on the menu and it was delicious. So thanks for that and overall staff were very friendly.
The location was good for motorway-around 15-20 min drive to Oxford but nothing immediately around the inn so car essential. A few other pubs in a 10 minute vicinity driving if you want a choice of somewhere else to eat. Overall we had a pleasant stay at the Lambert Arms. The small bed, weak shower and lack of character in the room let the place down for us. It just didn't quite live up to a 4* standard for us. It needs a bit more attention to detail in room and a bit more character.

Room Tip: Stay in the new block so a premiere or superior room. I wouldn't have a standard or you will be...

We had a two day stay in one of the Lambert Arms premier rooms. Firstly whilst the room was described as premium it was quite basic in the furnishings however was a good size and clean. We did find the bed very comfortable, which for a Hotel of this standing is very unusual. The staff especially the receptionist (apologise's as can not remember her name), who greeted us and made us fell very welcome were all very pleasant.

We ate both nights in the restuarant and we have to say that the menu looked enticing and the food itself was delicous. Highly recommended and we are disappointed it is so far away otherwise we would eat there on a regular basis. The breakfast consisted of buffet selection as well full English again cooked to perfection.

The bar were we had our after dinner drinks was very welcoming, comfortable and relaxing as it was not noisey.

The hotel itself was very clean and tidy and set in nice countryside ideal for walks or cycle rides and easily accessable from the M40.

If you are looking for a hotel close to Oxford lok no further than the Lambert Arms.

The Lambert Arms Hotel is everything you would want in a gastro pub and small bespoke Hotel. We use the excellent modern conference facilities connected to the historic pub/hotel to deliver small 4 day Health and Safety Course (IOSH Managing Safely) for business groups. The staff at the Lambert Arms are friendly, efficient and professional and the food is well above the normal business fayre. In addition we have the option of comfortable modern accomodation on site - there's even a gym !
Great location with views of the Chilterns and close enough to London, Oxford and Thames Valley to be handy for the region. At the same time - the atmosphere is relaxed and we all enjoy the gastro food next to roaring log fires when there has been ice and snow on the ground. Yet the close road links always meant no disruption. Always fresh coffee with a smile and all the training equipment needed.
