“Good food and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We stayed here for one night on a walking weekend on the Ridgeway. We were looked after very well. The room was lovely, the food was fabulous and the staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone walking the Ridgeway or looking for dinner in Watlington.

The room was comfortable, had all mod-cons and it quiet and was easy to relax. I did eat in the pub (it does homecooked food). The food was alright and swift to arrive (though, please note I am not so keen on soggy fried fish). Service was friendly. Beer is excellent.

Its definitely close enough (20 mins) if you are doing business in Oxford, but without having the hassle of Oxford. I will be coming here again.

Had a lovely time here in one of the superior rooms. Breakfast was awesome and the staff were so helpful and attentive. Room was magnificent. The only downside was the bathroom door needed maintenance - scraping on the floor and didn't close properly. Plus there were a lot of spiders webs - so cleaning could have been of a higher standard. But would definitely stay here again.

We needed a bolt hole for the night in Oxfordshire and the Fat Fox turned out to be the perfect venue. Very reasonably priced rooms with a comfortable bed, soft pillows and a nice deep bath to soak in. Dinner was delicious - I recommend the Scotch Egg (better than mine!) as a starter. We followed it up with a steak dinner, cooked just as we'd asked for. Breakfast was tasty too - cooked just as I'd ordered it - with a nice shot of coffee. The staff were friendly and attentive through-out. We will stay here again. Thanks to everyone at the Fat Fox.

Had a very good stay at the Fat Fox Inn. Everything was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and polite. The breakfast was substantial and used locally sourced ingredients and was well cooked and tasty. Being in a quiet room away from the main building meant that we had a good night's sleep.

Few hotels these days offer a freshly cooked breakfast to order. Okay so you have to wait a few minutes but its well worth it. locally sourced fresh ingredients cooked exactly how you prefer it and served with a smile. Anybody who would rather have those stale bland and greasy buffets typical of a larger brand hotel should really get out more and try some decent food.

Our standard room was spacious and well furnished. Would definitely stay again when next in the area.

We booked three rooms for four people for the night of 28th July. The double room was cramped and we were in full view of outside drinkers and anyone in the car park. An old-fashioned, non-cordless kettle (when did you last see one of those in a hotel room, cordless ones are about 7 quid in Tesco?) which we had to move the sideboard to unplug and fill. (When my wife complained about this we were given a water jug with which to fill the kettle which is at least pragmatic). Before dining we ordered a bottle of Prosseco and 4 glasses (this was a birthday celebration) which a cocky young man behind the bar proceeded to open and plonk on the bar in a cooler... but the Prosseco was barely below room temperature (on a very hot day).

When i later complained about this to the excellent waitress/manager for the restaurant, she was solicitous and later removed this drink from our bill. This particular employee, who waited on us for the rest of the evening, was excellent, and the only thing which moves this review from terrible to poor.

The food was of highly mixed quality, but all four main courses comprised inedible, tough meat, extremely disappointing given the price. Breakfast was mediocre. Overall we felt that this did not represent reasonable value for money... and that the issues that spoiled this stay for us were easily avoidable with a little more management attention.

Room Tip: Two of the three rooms we booked were twins, and apparently very good. Our Double was awful.
