“wonderful, wonderful lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

I got married at this lodge last August! I cannot say enough good things about it. Let's start with the location. Majestic Valley Lodge is about a 1-2 hour drive from Palmer, depending on how often you stop to take in the ridiculous scenery of giant towering mountains, wild mountain goats, Matanuska Glacier, shimmering lakes, etc...it is on the way to the Wrangell-St. Elias Range, one of the most beautiful places to see in AK (and not as frequented by tourists). The main lodge is so beautiful - built by the owners - rustic, open, airy, elegant, comfortable, who could ask for more? There is a huge covered porch, perfect to sit and have a cup of tea (or Alaskan beer, what have you) and take in the view from the lodge - literally of a "majestic valley!" The rooms in the main lodge are definitely the nicest - and they leave nothing wanting - with the less expensive rooms in the Glacier Hall and private cabins, which were still nice, but perhaps a bit more rustic and older. The staff is extremely kind and welcoming - it feels like you are staying at a bed and breakfast. The chef (when we were there) prepared food that was just as delicious and inventive as anything I have had in the nice restaurants in NYC and beyond. That was a shock - we were expecting bland/uninteresting food out in a lodge in the middle of the mountains! We were 100% wrong. The coconut-ginger crusted halibut was some of the best halibut I have ever had - and I'm from Alaska. There are hiking trails leading from the lodge to many different places in the gorgeous mountains surrounding. It's a great place to spend a long weekend - relaxing, hiking, skiing, exploring the glacier nearby...they even lit a bonfire in their bonfire pit for us every single night we were there. I'm sure this place is very cozy in the winter, and it's certainly a wonderful sanctuary in the summer - and an absolutely magical place to have a wedding. I really have nothing bad to say about this place. We plan on returning as often as we are able.

Room Tip: stay in the main lodge if possible - the rooms are luxurious!

We stayed in Glacier View in order to participate in a morning trek on the Matanuska Glacier. The lodge was very nice with a porch view of stunning scenery. The room was very comfortable. The only reasonable place to eat was in the lodge dining room which was a fixed menu that was very good. We strongly recommend this as a place to stay.
