“A very good stay, as always”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

We have stayed here several times, when visiting elderly parents who live close by, and have always been very happy during our stay. The pub itself is charming, traditionally furnished and extremely welcoming. The dining room has a great menu, with good choice, and the food is always well presented and cooked. The accommodation has obviously been recently refurbished as the upstairs section and bedrooms are furnished in contemporary style, and it is extremely comfortable. We have stayed in Room 12 on 3 occasions, and it is a reasonably spacious room, with a sofa, very comfortable bed and the lovely addition of fresh milk and a cafetiere and fresh coffee making facilities. Room service available from the bar for drinks and sandwiches &c. The carparking is good and secure. Prices are reasonable, for an overnight stay which is reliably good quality, which is the reason why we will return in the future. One tip to visitors who have commented on the route up the long winding lane - take the trouble to look at the map, and don't take the turn out of the village centre up the lane - go straight up the main road to the roundabout and the hotel is then easily found about a quarter of a mile down an easier road!!

Room Tip: Room 12 is spacious and has a lovely comfortable sofa.

Stayed here with several friend over the weekend. Everything about our stay was superb. First the staff are all helpful, polite and friendly. The food is first class and doesn't try to be anything other than very good country pub food with quality produce and good cooking, thank goodness no gimmicky gastropub tricks. The breakfast staff had 9 different requests for various types of English breakfast and on both mornings every dish was correct and no one had to wait. A rare thing in hotels. Rooms are very good and clean and above all the prices are fantastic for what you get. W are already planning our next visit

I have stayed here quite a number of times now, usually when entertaining visitors to our office which is a 10 minute drive away.
The Carpenters has been consistent over the 4-5 years that I have stayed here, the rooms are cosy, the beds very comfortable, nice bathrooms and they are all quiet.
The bar is warm and relaxing with lovely roaring fires in the winter and an outside sitting area in the summer.
Dinner has always been good, very good quality pub/ gastro with a changing menu, fish is generally good. Portion sizes are just right .
Wine list is better than average and there are always at least two real beers on offer.
Breakfast is excellent , fresh juice , good coffee and a tasty cooked selection.
I have taken load of people there from the USA , Europe and UK and all have thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
It's a good old English inn.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice, I think the higher numbers are slightly bigger . The lowest numbers are above th...

Just back from a wonderful family wedding - two nights spent in this cozy, beautiful hotel where nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Our room was comfortable, very clean and easily big enough for the two of us. Breakfasts were delicious - lots of choice and endless toast, coffee and tea - all delivered without prompting. We ate here on Friday night and everyone was pleased with the quality and level of service.

Stayed two nights for DBB. Our room (8) was small for a double,no room for a chair and very tight space for hanging clothes. Good sized bathroom but no shower. Good hospitality tray with fresh milk and cafetiere coffee. Soft pillows (I hate those awful foam slabs!) Our query about our tv was sorted efficiently while we had dinner. The food was consistently excellent for both quality and quantity, and is obviously a strength. Wines by the glass were very limited. Service was always pleasant. The pub is very well situated for both Bath (v convenient for the park and ride) and Bristol.

Room Tip: Check which room you are booking. Try to get one of the larger ones on the front of the pub (I don...

Only stayed for one night, 4/11/13, whilst on business in the area. Stayed in room 10 which was a very noce room, good size, very clean, quality furnishings. Bathroom was also a good size with quality towels and toiletries and what a lovely shower.
The whole pub/restaurant/rooms where all very well kept, clean and 'loved' by the owners which all in all made it a great place to stay.
Breakfast was served in the restaurant section of the pub and again the quality of the items shone through.
Shall not be my last visit.

Visited this pub some years ago and came away with the view that the meal portions were small and over priced.Visited again recently to find nothing has changed,no wonder it did no seem very busy for a Sunday lunch time. Will not go again, better meals available at lower price available elsewhere.
