“Sunday lunch at no 19”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

Treated my mum to a late Mother's Day lunch in the no 19 restaurant on Sunday which was excellent. The setting is great in a modern building with sweeping views over the Northumbrian countryside, staff are all friendly and the food is first class. Sunday lunch is a 2 or 3 course set menu , all courses were excellent especially popular was the goats cheese and beet root salad starter, roast beef main course and chocolate deluxe with run and raisin ice cream which had us all wanting to lick the plates clean. One of the best places locally for Sunday lunch.

My lovely friend treated me to Sunday lunch in the no. 9 restuarant yesterday for my birthday. The welcome is good, thecsetting is fantastic, you are in the middle of the country, yet not far to travel at all.
Set menu, we chose goats cheese and beetroot salad as a starter. When it arrived it was almost too pretty to eat, but it was delicious! I felt like I'd stepped onto the Masterchef set.....
Roast beef and veg also good, and although the sweets looked delicious, we were too full up! A friendbthen joined us for coffee, and she was made welcome too. We were not pushed at all to leave the table so it's very relaxed.
A lovely gem of a spot.

We took the 'rents' to Close House for a spot of afternoon tea to celebrate the MIL's birthday.
On first appearance, the grounds of the hotel were absolutely imaculate even though it was late winter.... The hotel itself was also of exceptionally high standard and the staff were both impecably dressed and very attentive.
The tea consisted of two, three tier serving plates, which were loaded with various types of sandwiches, scones, and cakes, there was also an excellent selection of teas & coffee's from around the World, the Samatra coffee was amazing!
We spent a good two hours in the large, spacious tea room in front of an open log fire and we were not rushed and came out very happy, the only downside was the price... at £78 for four people, I felt it was on the high side.
Would I go again?....... yes, but only for special occasions, it's out of our budget for day to day dining!

We had been given a voucher as a gift. What a lovely gift to be given. This hotel is superb with extremely good staff. Excellent food in both restaurants. The setting is wonderful. I can highly recommend it.
Only thing that spoilt the day was after our lunch we could not go back into the lounge as they had filled it with Afternoon Tea bookings. They need to have another room for this.

Visited Close House today for afternoon tea as a treat for Mother's Day. I can honestly say from the minute we arrived- when the door was held open for us- to the minute we left the service was impeccable.

The venue is beautifully decorated and is very stylish and yet is relaxing and comfortable. I would very much like to return in the future.

One of my presents for my 66th. birthday from my lovely girlfriend was to have dinner in the Argent d'Or restaurant at Close House, Heddon on the Wall. To make it special we decided to make an afternoon of it and booked a room for the night. On arrival, the car was valet parked and we were given a complimentary room upgrade to a superior room, ( number 4 ).
Not only was the room huge and beautifully appointed with one of the biggest bathrooms I have ever enjoyed, but was complete with a massive hydrotherapy bath, as well as a double walk-in shower.
After a bottle of wine in the champagne bar and a club sandwich, we sat in front of a lovely log fire for an hour and enjoyed the atmosphere and superbly attentive service.
After a bath so big that it takes over 30 minutes to fill, the water comes from the ceiling, by the way, I dressed for dinner.
Service, menu, quality of the food and presentation were absolutely superb. I enjoyed the halibut, with ox tail, and had the pressed duck,to start. My girlfriend had a king prawn starter and the roasted cod main. Faultless! Photos attached.
Breakfast superb in a gorgeous restaurant, car delivered to reception and baggage loaded.
Some birthday, thanks to all the wonderful staff for making it a memorable birthday. We will return!!
