“Gluten Free diets.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

I live locally and go quite often to the Three Wheat Heads with family and friends. The chef/owner understands and caters for gluten free diets, including providing delicious gravy and Yorkshire pudding! It is best to give advance warning when booking, but I have gone in `on spec` and still had a safe gluten free meal, even when the restaurant was very busy. Some hotels and restaurants do not understand which foods contain gluten let alone how ill eating even a small amount can make someone with coelia disease. We have always found the service friendly and welcoming.

We hadn't booked for our meal but the owner of the B&B we were staying in recommended this place to us.
The service was good and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The gammon was a very generous portion and was served with a large slice of fresh pineapple that had been cooked on a griddle - delicious and lifted a basic pub meal to a higher level. The puddings were well worth having, being home made and yummy.

We recently had a meal here as a walk in. Felt slightly rushed but we received a great table with fantastic view.

The food looked good on the menu, but different in person!

The trio of burgers was disappointing. 2 of the 3 were "frozen style burgers" the type you'd buy for the deep freezer.

The steak and ale pie was ok. The pastry top was barely cooked and the roast potatoes were hard and in my opinion undercooked. I didn't find the gravy to be much either.

Oh, and the beer went flat very quickly.

Overall, we wouldn't eat here again. Disappointing.

Me and my husband have just arrived home this morning from a 2 night stay here with our German Shepherd dog, Ben, and it was everything we had hoped it would be.
On arrival we were greeted warmly by staff and shown our rooms which were incredibly clean and well designed. The area is unbelievably stunning and this hotel has the most beautiful views out if its huge glass wall and doors in its restsurant.
They were great at accommodating us with our dog too as he could stay with us for our meals in the bar food area,
Plenty of stunning walks to explore from its doorstep (literally).
Easy access to surrounding Northumberland attractions.
Food was delicious!! Fillet steaks, full English, Cumberland sausage and mash.. Oh we were spoilt for choice!
We WILL be staying here again!
Thanks Three Wheat Heads :-)

I have visited this Inn several times in the past 20 years but my recent visit moved me to leave feedback on this first class establishment.
Situated in Thropton in the beautiful Coquet Valley of Northumberland this Inn/Hotel offers superb food and ale + excellent accommodation, not to mention the manicured lawns at the back overlooking the stunning Coquet RIver.
If you are in the area, it is worth a detour for lunch or dinner - you will not be disappointed.

We ate at the Three Wheat Heads while staying at a B&B just over the road and after eating there, we know exactly why the B&B owners recommended it to us. The meal we had was excellent, with plenty of choice on the menu, good service and reasonable prices. The portions were very generous, so much so that neither of us could manage a desert, which doesn't happen very often! The views from the restaurant were wonderful, as they look out towards the Simonside Hills. This restaurant is very high on our list of places to return to and we have already recommended it to friends who also visit Northumberland on a regular basis.

This is a great place for very good quality food at extremely reasonable prices. The staff are all incredibly friendly and the location is a beautiful backdrop. Take your appetite with you, as portion sizes are very generous. Would highly recommend eating here.
