“Best Western but not Best Kept!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2010

1st appearances count,so when you walk into your room & the 1st thing you see is a ripped chair & a layer of dust on the table tops this tends to put you off! Hotel looks like it has been a very nice hotel but alas now requires some TLC,the only good point been the piece & quiet of the location. The staff were very helpful. As for food this was good but it would have been nice to have received our order at the same time so that we could have eat together.Don't think we shall return to this hotel but will visit the area again.

Many thanks for your positive comments regards the food and the helpful staff. We totally agree that first appearances count and a ripped chair in a room is not acceptable. We have today placed an order for new chairs for the bedrooms and I am delighted to say these will be with us by the end of next week so indeed your positive comments have had a knock on effect to benefit future guests.

Derwent Manor is set in the wonderful Derwent Valley and indeed is a quiet and peaceful spot! I do hope you give us the opportunity and re visit us in the near future.

This is our 4th time here, staying for 1 night at a time.
I find it so relaxing just parking the car up then sitting on the comfy couch in the bar area, enjoying a few drinks. We just order from the menu in there too.Food is always good and service pleasant.
Breakfast is served in the dining room.
There is a pool and gym but we have not used them
I always look for deals when booking here too.

We stayed here as part of a wedding party in September. The location of the hotel is beautiful, in country woodland. However it is a long way for other guests to travel for a wedding who weren't staying. And there is not much in the vicinity to do other than country walks if you were staying as a get away. But the grounds were lovely too. All i would say is that there could be more seating outside. The weather on this day was fabulous and we had to perch on a wall which over looked, well was practically in the car park. There is a lage green area wich could be used and is not. Anyway, inside is traditionally decorated, in what some may feel is oldfashioned. Our room, was a bit dark and old fashioned looking. As was the bathroom. Looking at the other pictures of rooms on other reviews, that looks like an entirely different hotel, and it would have been an entirely different stay if that where we'd been. Thankfully because we were at the wedding we weren't in the room, other than to sleep or i would have been greatly disappointed. The hotel is rather expensive aswell. I will not be staying again.

I have stayed at this hotel several times this year and it just gets better!
Staff excellent level of customer service, bar food simple but delicious, restaurant food very impressive and breakfast very well cooked.
Rooms very spacious and clean. Hotel is situated in countryside such a peaceful and relaxing setting.
Leisure facilities are excellent- pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym.
Love this hotel so much have booked up for Christmas and will no doubt return before then!!!

We stayed in this hotel in May for our anniversary & had a great stay, it is in a lovey setting & you can take a walk from the grounds along a riverbank.

We have just returned from another overnight stay with 3 other couples & had a great night. Staff were very friendly & we had a lovely meal. The hotel rooms all have 2 double beds & are very clean. There is a swimming pool, sauna. jacuzzi & small gym which residents can use.

We stayed in this hotel after seeing an offer in our local paper & it was excellent value

We had a couple of nights booked as part of a tesco clubcard deal. First impressions are OK, the hotel is obviously an ex farm complex that has been developed and to be honest it looks well.

Check in was excellent, Pauline was a star and well deserved of the employee of the month award proudly being displayed!! Our room was a tad chinzy!! No sign of a duvet here, but a few sheets and a blanket. Not really for me.

Leisure suite was pretty good. Sauna and jacuzzi, with a pool. To be honest I felt things could just be a bit tidier and lacked detail, but generally a good hour spent getting hot!!

We had a few beers in the "pub" attached to the hotel. It was very busy apparently due to a promotion in the local paper for dinner bed and brekky. I thought this was spot on. The pub bit was a tad, well, dirty to be honest. Some previous punter had written on the window bottom "clean me" in the dust, my good lady quickly pointed this out. Windows were all blown and needing a wash.

Evening meal was OK, limited options with just 4 starters and mains, but I think this is fine as long as the meals are perfect. Mine was very good to be honest, my good lady got a poor quality piece of lamb. Good points is they did not charge for my bottle of wine!!

Finally breakfast, this was good although service was laboured. I saw guests walk away because it took so long to seat people. Better communication would have been good with the folks queuing for a table. Food was spot on though.

We did not stay two nights but deciced to head home after one night. Probbaly the best options.

I hope Pauline is well on reception !!!

As always any question please ask

Lee

Lee thank you for your kind comments regards Derwent Manor and yes you are correct it is a farm converted into what is today a splendid hotel with, leisure bedrooms, cottages, function rooms and restaurant and bar.

We have many super stars on our staff team and yes Pauline is certainly one of them.

The sauna and jacuzzi are always good for getting hot and bothered in then as you quite rightly say to the pub for a beer and a cool down. Your good lady was quite right more attention to detail needed paying to the cleaning aspect and that has now been rectified.

Delighted your meal was perfect but regret your good lady had a problem with the quality of her lamb. Breakfast is always a busy affair but the food is always as you rightly point out spot on!

From a seasoned traveller your comments are much appreciated and Pauline sends her thanks. The picture you attached is great!

We stayed for 2 nights including a function at the the hotel on 2nd night and we stayed in one of the suites, which was a nice large room and was clean, however a few negative comments include

Curtain did not shut properly being held up by some string (!) allowing the sun to shine through at 5am..nice, also the curtain rail was not connected to the wall correctly.
TV only had 4 tv stations despite advertising @ 10 including SSN and the recption on 2 of those was poor,no radio either on the tv.
As we had a suite we should have had a cd player in room..no evidence of that.
Whilst the bathroom was well decorated there was nowhere to put toiletries in the shower.
Great views from the window of the surrounding countryside.
Bar food was ok though a bit pricey, service in bar was good and staff were attentive.
Unfortunately there was problem with the water when we were there ( broken pump or something) - communication was poor about it and when it would be fixed - no signs or letters through door.
Whilst there was free internet the connection kept dropping off, need to boost the signal.

Thank you for your positive comments regards the size of the rooms, cleanness’ ,décor and service in the bar and I will certainly pass your kind comments regards the attentive staff on to them.

Your extremely constructive comments have identified 3 areas of improvement Curtains , T.V and toiletries rack, I am pleased to advice that blackout curtains are now being investigated, TVs have all had a booster fitted and the picture and channels are now all present and correct, a rack has been fitted for toiletries.

Sadly the CD player has been misplaced and a new one now sits in its rightful place.

At least the fantastic view and countryside is still in place for future clients.

Your constructive comments and observations have helped us monitor, maintain and improve our standards.

Thank You!
