“Should be rated 5 star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We were very impressed with the hotel staff, facility, incredible food, and professional service. A great place to bike and escape the polluted Hanoi air. Easy drive from Hanoi. We loved the local people, visiting the Sunday market, and taking in the stunning scenery. Saturday evening there was a cultural music and dance performance introducing guests to the local tribal music and dress.

This was the highlight of our Vietnam trip. We plan to return and spend longer in the Mai Chau valley as we feel there is so much more to see. The lodge itself was lovely, very clean and the staff very helpful and accomodating. We used all the facilities, pool, spa, sauna etc and had them to ourselves each time which was lovely and peaceful. We enjoyed cycling & walking around the area and our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. The meals were devine. Lunch & dinner menus were really great.

I had joined a bike trip in Luang Prabang Laos to Hanoi and this was our last stop. This is great place to stay with every all that you could want.Nice comfortable rooms,restaurant/bar pool and excellent staff more than happy to help. Most of the other people on the trip went for a bike ride around the rice fields and to the local villages.

Room Tip: It is on the main road and is quite however room on the pool side would be nice.

Ok. It is a nice place for spendng a day or two in Mai Chau. And Mai Chau is definitely worth a visit, it IS beautiful!
But this hotel is the best only because thete are no real hotel alternatives. (The others are more the homestay caterory, which can great too if you like it.) At Mai Chau Lodge they are well aware of this, so they charge prices which are way above their standard. The rooms are small, the pool not very inviting with its opaque water, the food is normal Vietnam restaurant quality, ok but nothing exciting. The staff is friendly and speaks English better than usual. But the location is not nearly as idylic as the pictures try to say. Yes it is beside that big lotus pond - but it is also right on the main road, and the "mountain view" rooms are really "road view", so not much quiet and tranquility here.
We went to Mai Cau by motorbike ftom Hanoi, so we decided to have the luxury of a nice clean bathroom. This decision was right. But next time I would go for another place. Mai Cau Lodge is too pseudo-posh for me.

Dear GermanExpatHanoi,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review on this website following your recent visit to Mai Chau.
As locate in Mai Chau, 135 km far from Ha Noi or any other big cities or market, our operation cost is high as we must import many things from Ha Noi. Whenever we have big technical issues, we need the technician from Ha Noi with higher cost. Most of food we serve in Mai Chau Lodge originally from local area. And the local people they produce the organic food with the small scale size so it lead to the higher cost also. We can buy frozen food from Ha Noi with cheaper price but we had the commitment to develope the local community when we invested in Mai Chau region.
I was however delighted to note that you thoroughly enjoyed our service.
Once again, thank you for your truly valuable comments s. As a result, we hope that there will be another opportunity for us to welcome you in Mai Chau Lodge.

Best regards,

my husband and i had a personal driver and guide take us from the diamond hotel in hanoi to this peaceful place. We enjoyed a beautiful two days in mai Chau lodge, quiet setting, clean and good service , average food in resturant, great private pool. We were able to walk to the villages, bike ride, walk in the rice fields, meet the lovely local people.we found this stay a lovely change from the noise of hanoi.

I recently attended a yoga retreat and was impressed with the caring and friendly service. The room was very comfortable and the whole atmosphere of the place was relaxing. We stayed 2 nights and ate 2 dinners, 3 lunches and 2 breakfasts and each of them was delicious and plentiful. Definitely a place I would recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not overlook the road.

Stayed here for one night on a tour
Service and room were nice however it's clear no one is trained in any type of hospitality
The device was relatively attentive and the highlight was the lovely room and dancing from the local villagers
The food however was really terrible
Spring rolls full of gristle chicken curry tasted off and pork in clay pot full of fat even fried rice was clearly made with frozen vegetables
I could not believe the place was only three years old
It looks tired and all the outdood furnishings needs a luck of varnish
To finish it off when we had to check out we were told that ATM was not working and we needed to pay bill by cash which we did not have enough luckily our tour guide could fix the bill up for us
I understand that this is not their fault however the system had been down a few days and it would have been good to have informed guests of this as there is no ATM on mai chau and we may not have not spent as much as we did not have $ 10000 of dong in us being travellers
I personally would not go back again and take the longer trek to sapa in future

Dear Dishy 2468,

Thank you for your valuable review.
This is with regrets that I read you review. To be honest, we are not used to those kind of remarks, but you can make sure that we take seriously all your critics.
First, I would like to apologize for your food experience which is not respecting our standard. In fact, we have had many good feedback for the food. But we are very sorry that this time our food did not meet your expectation. The chefs in kitchen are aware about your feedback and the immediately action will be taken to improve the food.
Then, regarding the outdoor furnishings, since we run the hotel in 2007, we have plans to repaint the wooden furnitures every year . Because with the tropical weather like in Mai Chau ( hot, humid, rainy), the outdoor furnitures are very quickly faded the color. The next painting will be carried out in November and December because in Winter the weather is dry and cold so it is good for painting and the Guests do not use the swimming pool.
Finally, for the credit card machine, we are very sorry that it is broken in the day you checked in. We contacted with the Bank in Ha Noi and urgently they sent us the new machine which arrived in Mai Chau Lodge at noon of the day later. And now the new credit machine runs well already,

All our team is working everyday to make guests stay memorable and enjoyable. We will work meticulously on each point you mentioned.
