“Far from the madding crowd!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

In terms of value for money - L'Ille de Sees is very good. It's quiet, it's clean, it's well positioned as others have said for ferries etc. It's picturesque. It's staff members are warm and welcoming and the dinner menu gives some good choices plus some specialities of the day. The dining room has a nice ambience and the food well above average. The wine list is from excellent bottlers - Jaboulet and Chapoutier being two and is very reasonably priced indeed. Our bathroom (separate WC) had a bath in the shower which could have been better positioned - but the water was hot. The room was large and the bed comfortable The Michelin guide gives this one block - it was easily as good as some they have given two blocks. Quality and price are well matched and for the price the quality wins. I would stay here again without a doubt. Parking was secure and free. It was well signposted.

Room Tip: Older rooms at the front of the hotel may be larger than those in the extension at the rear.

Stayed one night after booking through Logi de France who give it 3 chimneys and pots. Nice are and lovely grounds, place is like a picture from the outside. Pleasant reception and big rooms for an older establishment. Cleanliness was good but carpets and some furnishings were tired and need replacement. Comfortable large bed and working flat screen TV in the room but in en-suite the shower rail was broken off and laying in the bath so you had to hold the shower to use it, an unacceptable situation. Meal was reasonably priced but not the standard I expect from a 3 pot logis, disappointing would cover this. Clientele appeared to be business travellers and a few older British couples. Not terrible but not a place I would return to.

A good stop over if you have to catch a ferry to the UK.
Fabulous place in great gardens.
Had evening meal which was very good, the steak I had was real quality and cooked to perfection.

Thought the room was only OK, nothing special, looked as if in places could do with a re-fresh.
The shower unit did not stay up by itself, picky I know but it was annoying.
All surfaces were clean, but if you looked closer, could do with a deep clean.

Although nice and food good, I probably would not stay there again, but only marginally so.
It may be fine for others, and from the previous reviews this comes through.

Room Tip: We had room 1, maybe others were better?

We stayed at this lovely little hotel both on the way to and back from the Charente. It was perfect with a great and attentive host at a reasonable price. The set meals were excellent Will certainly return.

Just returned from our 7th or 8th visit to L'Ile de Sees. As ever, we had a pleasing welcome and a lovely dinner with friends. Room 9 had been decorated since we last had it - very restful. We'll be booking our stays for next year soon.

We stayed for one night in July 2012 but wished we had booked for longer! A superb little hotel with a friendly welcome and excellent food. Very quiet and restful. The nearby town of Sees (which we had never heard of before our stay) is well worth a visit and has some lovely walks - ask for a brochure at the Tourist Offive in the main square. This is a simple country hotel and the room was quite small, but bearing in mind the price, welcome and cuisine it is unbelievable value for money.
