“Nice Stop on a Long Journey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We stopped for breakfast and lunch on two occasions, Sophies's Choice opens early which helps and at each occasion had friendly service and a nice meal including good coffee. The restaurant also has an small antique shop attached.
A lovely restaurant to stop at if your travelling past Willowmore.

“Rustic and delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Sophie's Choice is a welcome find on your trip in the Karoo, where distances are big and the landscape is empty. The restaurant is located on the main road in Willowmore in an old building which sets the atmosphere right away. Inside, there is a big collection of curiosa (some of the actual antiques) to emphasize that atmosphere. Service is friendly and on the menu you can find all sorts of lovely home baked pies, sandwiches etc. Get a seat on the covered porch to see all the hustle and bustle of a Karoo town. The restaurant is licenced so you can a lovely cold Castle beer with your meal on that hot, dry, dusty Karoo afternoon.

“Awesome Surprise!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We and my wife were travelling on motorbikes through the Karoo. Because of the fuel range we are forced to stop more regularly than by car and with that you tend to find “jewels” in isolated places like in Willowmore.
This particular day was hot like only the Karoo can dish out heat, and after a fuel stop decided to stop for a coke or something that comes pre-pack (slim chances of disappointment).
With the first moment one step inside this Restaurant / Antique shop you feel the calmness and love for countryside life you only find in unexpected pleases like this. We decided to take a change and order a breakfast; we had nothing to lose and took the change.
What a SURPRISE one gets; from the order taking to the time you pay the bill Sophie the owner we find out later is involved in all the tables in her establishment. The food is prepared with great care and love and the antique cutlery, homemade jam ext. compliment the atmosphere. Nothing on the plate was dull or without great taste.
Places like this will make me to follow the same route next time just so that we don’t miss out on meal at Sophie’s Choice. This is a MUST STOP!!! restaurant for everybody travelling through or passes by Willowmore.

“Pathetic!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

Especially stopped at Sophies on our way back from Wildernis. No pies in stock, no banana for toasted sandwiches. I did not even enquire further whether they even have bread for toast! Pathetic. I do not advise anyone to stop in this one horse town!

“Sophie's Choice a rare find in the rural Karoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

I liked the friendly atmosphere where one can rub shoulders with locals. The food and coffee are really top class. Theire home made chicken pies are highly recommended.
