“A memorable stay which exceeded all of my expectations.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2010

I booked the Low Penhowe stay for myself Mum, Dad and Brother as we were going to a wedding nearby, we decided to make a weekend of it and stayed for two nights here. I read the reviews and cannot agree more that Christopher and Philippa have got the 5 star Bed and Breakfast spot on. From the day I booked everything went so smooth Christopher offered to book us taxis and even a hairdresser for the morning of the wedding! We arrived to a lovely friendly welcome it was as if we were visiting old friends and felt relaxed and at home immidiately. The setting is lovely and peaceful a real hidden gem but still close to some lovely pubs and restaurants - we went to The Blacksmiths Arms just over a mile away which served delicious home cooked food at very reasonable prices. The breakfast at The Low Penhowe is superb - locally produced and with plenty of choice too, I regulary stay in many hotels around the country with my job so consider myself quite picky but I cannot think of anything Philippa and Christopher could do to improve - they really have thought of everything. I would highly recommend this to anyone and I will no doubt be returning in the future.

“A superlative experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2010

Low Penhowe is located in the Yorkshire wolds, about 25 minutes drive from York. A vast variety of sites can be seen within an hour or so. Beth and I stayed for 2 weeks and were enriched by the experience! Philippa and Christopher are the ideal hosts for a vacation in north Yorkshire. They make it their business to make your stay comfortable and to answer any and all questions about attractions in the area. They suggested for us places that were not indicated in travel brochures but, as it turned out, were not to be missed! The breakfasts they provided were a gourmet's delight - especially try the scrambled eggs! Nothing is forgotten! We had had some car difficulties and Christopher and Phillipa ensured - almost within minutes - that we were literally up and driving! With their concern and perseverence and suggestions they are responsible for a most successful vacation in the wolds and dales of North Yorkshire. We enthusiastically recommend Low Penhowe - Phillipa, Christopher, Molly and Isla - as not just a stopping over spot, but as a vacation destination! Thank you to all - Tom and Beth

“Delightful B&B that exceeded expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We fully endorse previous comments. The setting, facilities and attention to detail were second to none ensuring that we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. Our hosts provided personal assistance with booking meals, travel/sightseeing advice including a delightful tour around the North Yorkshire moors prior to our journey home. We were treated more like friends and would happily return for another stay. The breakfast was truly great!
Rural location, car essential.

“Fabulous Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We were intending to stay nearer the coast; so glad we didn't as we hit on a brilliant gem of a b&b and found the area with its lovely stone villages a hidden delight. Our hosts were very welcoming and the standard of accomodation was excellent. The dogs were very well-trained and friendly and the views from the house absolutely stunning. Breakfasts were gorgeous and there is a great collection of pubs nearby for a hearty evening meal. We will definitely be going back!

“Very friendly, excellent food and extremely well looked after, lovely house & gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2010

Christopher was extremely helpful with directions. The home was very clean and comfortable with a lovely lounge and beautiful dining room which was delightfully set for breakfast. The food really did live up to it's description on their website. They own two well behaved labradors and a few rather unusual looking cows can be seen grazing on their land. Nothing seemed too much trouble for Christopher. We would definately recommend this to friends and if planning a break to York again would book well in advance.
