“Always worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

We always try to eat here during our holidays on the Broads as the meals are excellent value and there is so much choice, made even better by the introduction of a specials board.
Sea bass from the board was very good on our first visit, with good sized portions, though on our return four days later several of the special dishes were 'sold out' by 7pm. We were told this was because the menu was due to be changed four days later.
The dessert portions were also considerably smaller on our second visit (it looked as if one tart portion had been cut into two) and we wondered if they were also running low on these. If so, better to have told us and given us the opportunity to choose an alternative.
That said, desserts are considerably cheaper than at most restaurants in the area and are generally very good with plenty of choice.
House wines are good and reasonably priced.
The young staff coped well with a busy service on both our visits and they are courteous and friendly - a credit to the hotel.
For anyone boating on the Broads this is a lovely spot to moor and the restaurant is well worth a visit.

We just stayed here for 4 nights. Our room was spacious, so was the bathroom and all of it was spotlessly clean. The breakfast couldn't have been better and the evening meals were huge. The staff were mostly young people and were a credit to the hotel, always polite, pleasant and attentive.
Please bear in mind the fact that this is an old building, don't expect 5 star luxury and you'll be more than pleased.
The location was perfect for us. We explored North Norfolk, the East coast, and ventured as far south as Southwold.
The weather was glorious and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
One small point; thicker curtains or blackout blinds would have been appreciated as there was very bright sunlight in the room very early.

We've just spent 2 nights at this hotel on one of the many deals around and have to agree with the last few reviewers - it was super. I judge a room/hotel on the basis of 'would I be happy sitting here doing a crossword/reading a book on a rainy afternoon?' and the answer for the Staithe was a definite 'yes' from both of us: both in the room or in the hotel bar.

The hotel is old and quite dark inside, which is in keeping with it's age: low ceilings, narrow corridors and steep stairs, but you can imagine the smugglers using it all those years ago. I was worried when we walked down the dark corridor to our room but when the door opened to a large bright, clean room, all fears disappeared. Yes, there were a couple of small cracks around the building but it is an old building. If you prefer boutique style hotels this probabaly isn't for you, but I use them all the time with work and this was a lovely change - comfortable, clean and peaceful.

As others have said, all the staff were fabulous: friendly, knoweldgeable (about the beer and the area) and just nice to be served by. We were asked whether we had any dietary requirements, and when the rack broke on our motorcycle Damion was really helpful there and then with boxes, tape, instruction how to get to the post office etc.

The area is lovely. We didn't ride anywhere due to no rack so walked into Sutton doing a round trip, visitng the museum, sitting by the water, following a trail back which was lovely. The hotel is next to a small boatyard so we meandered around there and outside the hotel is a mooring dock for visiting boats where we sat on one of the benches in the sunshine watching boats mooring. At tea time a barn owl did a fly past twice which was lovely and the beers were excellent.

The locals in the bar were friendly and the menu was plentiful. As others have said, the portion sizes were enormous and we thought they were too big as a lot of food was wasted and that would be my only gripe, but the quality of the food was super. Try the whitebait starter (have it to share as there were loads!) it was delicious.

the prices for food and beer were a bit higher than we are used to seeing but the room was such good value, we didn't mind.

All in all this is a quaint, old hotel, providing a peaceful relaxing break from the hussle and bussle of a busy life.

Hope this helps.

Room Tip: We had room 12 and it was large, airy and to the back of the hotel, so nice & quiet.

Could not fault in any way. The staff are a credit to their employer, in all my days of staying at hotels this was the best staff I have ever come across nothing was too much trouble for them.
The room (3) was clean, nice to have WHITE sheets and towels. I think "Four in a bed" would have been pleased except for minor issues which did not effect our stay in the room. The food was excellent.
Congratulations, we would definately stay here again

Room Tip: Room 3 was spacious and a nice position except the lights outside did keep us awake at night, this...

Stayed here for a mid week break. Lovely friendly hosts who upgraded our room to include a lounge and double bedroom as he said he was in a good mood. Might of been due to a mutual support of same football team. Excellent. Can't fault.

Stayed for two nights didn't quite know what to expect , having not been before
Very pleased that we have found the hotel as it is a great base to visit family whilst back in Norfolk.
Room we stayed in was modern , clean and comfortable, décor a little dated but doing our research we were not expecting a boutique styled haven nor a premier inn!
The bar was busy and the barmaid was friendly and helpful
We ate on the second night food was very good dined from the specials board - very nice meal and excellently presented didn't have to wait long besides the restaurant having quite a few diners that evening- a nice atmosphere
Staff were very polite and efficient especially the young chap "Jake" who served us dinner and breakfast the next morning, and also "Sam" who made sure we were well looked after supplying us with a little local knowledge
We shall return with friends in tow!

Room Tip: Room 12 comfortable clean and spacious

Food amazing - large portions and very good quality - only down point is the rooms would benefit from a facelift but don't let that put you off - the staff are the friendliest and very helpful - i will be going back!
