“Cheap rates,bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

There were 15 of us in the group, 6 kids, loads of baggage which we had to bring down the stairs with no assistance whatsoever from the staff. The premier loft room we had was quite old but clean. Not safe for kids i would say. Get a room on the ground floor. Food was very very bad. Each and every meal we had, each and every dish they served was bad. You will notice that they recycle the food. You won't miss it. There were lots of flies in the dining area and that's because you have to clean up after yourselves and throw the leftover food in a garbage bin near the dining tables where the flies swarm. The dirty dishes are there as well. We were very disappointed and we are
never coming back.

First it was too far from Manila. It was also mentioned in their website that if you are already near to the resort you will see signs that you are near to their place but it was a reciprocal of what the website says.... The food was a bit ok. The beach was too dirty there are some rubbish floating into the water ...Having said that, this review is based on our experience last week. Submitting this review after spending Day Tour in this resort last April 19.

this is a late posting. since i made reviews on the other resorts in laiya where we stayed lately, i also want to review my resort choice in laiya san juan. the reason we stayed on the other resorts was because la luz is fully booked (like most of the time). this is a beachfront resort with a coral reef right in front of the resort. a wonderful spot for snorkelling. my kids loves the rocky area with lots of small sea animals, a playground for curious kids but need to take extra care with the sharp rocks and need supervision for small kids. relaxing cabanas where you can sleep off the afternoon. good food, quiet evening.

I travelled with my family (husband, ten month old and babysitter). In general, we had a good time. There is a small pool that we all enjoyed. (Be warned though that during our stay, there was a frog at the edge of the pool). Coconuts abound and we ordered for some.

The acclaimed tree top houses were too small to accommodate us and we had to settle for the poolside cabanas. The room had sufficient space, however there were many mosquitoes.

They were in the middle of renovation when we went there, probably in antication of summer visitors. Food was so-so.

They have a beach area good for snorkelling somewhere far from their resort, but if the security guard at that area does notknow that you are a guest in their resort, they might drive you away.

Uhhh...could have been great, but with the rate they were charging and with other options available, i'd say go find another place.

The best thing they have to offer in this resort is their service. Sincere and gracious.

I am giving the benefit mostly on part of the staff, 3 1/2 stars is my true vote. The people here are very good and very friendly. The rooms were very clean and quite comfortable. There is no TV in the rooms and they rent board games, so if there is any bad weather good luck. The food is only OK. They have increased the variety of types of food compared to what I read from other reviewers. They had things other than the local fare. The beach is clean, but very rocky. I enjoyed snorkeling, even saw 2 sea turtles. Unfortunately there was a fair amount of trash in the water on the sea bed which was unfortunate and took away from the beautiful sea life. It is not spectacular snorkeling, but nice with a variety of fish. Overall I did not find the resort to be exceeding anything for the price, just average (considering the cost for the required food). It was quiet and relaxing. Arrange some type of transportation to and from San Juan. Jeepney was 80 p per head and the tricycle wanted 300 p and was about a 1/2 hour ride.

The reservation process was an absolute nightmare. We tried to book in December for our 1st week in March trip and they told us they did not have pricing and to wait after the year. We tried again in January and they tolld us it was too soon. Finally in Feb we were able to secure, but they said they only accepted bank deposit for the security deposit, costly from overseas. Once sent we had many troubles in getting confirmation. Be warned.

Every time I come to this beautiful country to visit, I make it a point to spend a few days in this beautiful, rustic coastal town of Laiya. It is just a boat ride after all from some of the most biodiverse diving spots in the world. La Luz Beach Resort is one of very few places in this area that is run by people who know about the essence of a relaxing weekend, albeit a quick getaway from it all.
A few years back, I had the privilege of meeting its owner, Mr. Rommel Marasigan quite a pleasant gentleman whom I understand built La Luz from scratch.
I was pleasantly surprised that Mr.Marasigan now offers boat rides to his guests aboard his yacht, the Naya. For just 1,200 per head you can enjoy a two hour boat ride.so of course I grabbed this chance. Thank goodness, the resort was not that full and the staff accommodated us for a last minute booking . It was really fun even for my middle-aged relatives and especially for the teens.
Another thing I noticed in the resort, was the improvement in their food, especially the afternoon snack. They really worked on this, and I commend their chef and kitchen staff.
Kudos to Mr. Marasigan and his staff for making a seemingly ordinary trip , extraordinary . it even Kind of reminds me of my trips to Southern France. Just plain wicked.

Room Tip: Pick the Talizay room in the very end of the strip. Massage service is good. no soap or tissue provi...

Commuting:
If you're going to commute from Manila (particularly in Cubao district, Quezon City), there's a bus (Alps bus) going straight to San Juan town proper. First trip starts from 5:30am with 1 1/2 hours interval, with approx. 3-4hrs drive. Then you'll just gonna take a jeep from the town proper, probably around 30-45mins drive. The jeep's last stop is Laluz... Yes it is the last part of the beach strip.

Place:
The place is quiet and serene. But if you're a fan of fine white sand beach, this may not be the place for you since its beach is made of pebbles. There are spots in the beach where there are coral rocks. However, if you just want to relax and stay away from the busy city scape, this is a good place for you. You can just unwind, hear the sound of the beach, and enjoy the sun.

Amenities:
The rooms (judging from where we stayed) are nice. It has the basic amenities like hot/cold shower and aircon. There's no TV in the room (which is good. We went there to enjoy the place, not to watch tv anyway). All of their rooms have no tv. They have WiFi all over the place, but there are times that the connection isn't working, so its much better if you have your own WiFi. Cellphone signal is excellent. The use of cabanas are free of charge. You can also call for a full body massage, either in the cabanas or inside your room. First aid kits are also available which is a plus factor. There are also water activities to choose from, but it comes with a price. snorkeling gear has a certain charge per use, however, use life vests are free of charge.

Food:
You don't have to bring your own food as its mandatory for you to pay for buffet meals upon reservation. However, you can bring some chips/drinks if you want to (they didn't charge us for corkage fee, but maybe after writing this review, they will charge corkage fee for their future guests.. Hopefully not. Hehe). There are water drinking stations located in the dining areas available all day and night. Food is generally good, nothing special about it, however, there are a lot of food choices. :) Foods are mostly filipino dishes.

All in all, the place is very good.

Tip: bring aqua shoes if you're a fan of walking along the beach front.
