Having already personally responded to this reviewer and thanked them for their kind comments, I would just like to add a general comment for readers of our reviews re: the disabled access to the hotel... due to planning and building regulations and the various bureaucratic rules that as a business we are forced to adhere to, the safest route for our disabled access is stipulated as having to be via the side entrance to the hotel, which does entail access via a short ramp and then through a corridor where our ground floor bedrooms are located and then directly into the reception of the hotel. We do always try to ensure that the guests are met and escorted through this disabled entrance and we do try to ensure as little inconvenience to the guests as possible.

This was our first visit to TerraVina and I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. On arrival there was some confusion with our booking. This was swiftly and professionally dealt with - so swift I didn't even know there was an issue! We were looked after from start to finish by extremely professional and friendly staff. This is the kind of hotel that immediately makes you feel at ease as nothing is too much trouble. We had a superb dinner and excellent wines. At dinner I felt my portion of fish, although delicious, did not reflect the price and mentioned it to the owner who was present. Without any hesitation I was offered some more. We stayed with our 3 year old and unlike other hotels we were made to feel very comfortable despite her running around the dining room. We stayed in room 1 which was perfect for a family of 3 - spacious, clean and with a small terrace with a table and chairs. The pool is lovely ( and warm!) and the beds are huge and comfortable. We will be booking our next visit soon.

We have just returned from a long weekend staying at Terravina. We had booked it based on Trip Advisor reviews. The service was excellent, the evening meals and wine were delicious and we ate so well. They were very accommodating to our young kids too. The family room was a great setup, the only disappointment and reason we haven't gone for the highest ranking was the bed was very uncomfortable and we slept very badly, but it could be we were unlucky.

It's a great find of a hotel. If you like fresh air, venturing around the forest and having a fantastic meal with lovely wine then you will like it.

We stored our bikes with the hotel and we ventured to Lymington, Brockenhurst and Hengistbury Head.

We would recommend staying and eating at this hotel.

Having responded privately to this reviewer, I would just like to add a public note regarding our beds.

Our beds are top quality, Vi Spring beds and mattresses and many of our guests comment on how fantastically comfortable they are. We are always disappointed if a guest notes that the beds are not to their liking, as much thought, effort and experimenting goes into the choice of beds we have at the hotel and in fact these range of beds are the ones we have opted for during over 20 years, both here at TerraVina and previously at our first group of hotels, Hotel du Vin and we consistently receive great comments about the beds.

A bed mattress and its firmness or otherwise is a very personal preference . Whilst the vast majority of the guests continue to mention the beds most positively and tell us the beds are heavenly and very comfortable it is disappointing when we have a guest who's sleep was effected by them not being comfortable in their bed.

Many thanks to the reviewer for letting us know of her thoughts on the mattress- we appreciate the feedback and all constructive comments are most helpful as we can take positive action thanks to them.

We were looking for a good hotel in the New Forest for a last minute booking ahead of the bank holiday weekend. We made a short list from the TA reviews and amazingly found this one had one room spare for just two nights so we booked on Thursday and went on Friday. The road to the hotel is not great, but do not be put off - a stay at this hotel is every bit as good as the vast consensus of the TA reviews. The highlight of the hotel was the staff, every one of them that we came into contact with was attentive and friendly. Our room 'Eiswein' was small - as we had been told when we booked - and I was not a great fan of the orange colour theme. However, it was perfectly adequate for a short stay, it was spotlessly clean and the bed and bedding were excellent. The bathroom was huge with a roll top bath, a separate shower which was one of the most powerful we have used anywhere, lots of fluffy white towels and quality and comprehensive toiletries.

The bar is very tight for space and as the lounge was reserved for a private function on the first night there was no other option. The restaurant is not large either, but it is well laid out and has a large covered terrace off the whole of one side which in summer must make it feel much more spacious. The open plan kitchen and the large windows into the wine store at the end of the restaurant make a statement about this hotels emphasis on a fine dining experience. Subdued lightning, plain, elegant and sparkling crockery and glasses all add to the ambiance. Our meal on the first night was good but on the second night it was superb. The choice of wines is excellent and the Sommelier is extremely knowledgable and helpful. Breakfasts on both days were excellent and the view in daylight from the dining room over the gardens is lovely.

Overall we felt the not inconsiderable expense for a two day break was more than justified by overall quality, experience and enjoyment that dinner bed and breakfast at this hotel provides. We are happy to recommend it and will certainly go back.

Room Tip: This is a small hotel so book early and if you plan to be there for a few days one of the first floo...

Don't be put off by the unprepossessing approach road. This is an absolute gem. We just stayed one night - more's the pity!
The night we were there they had a special selection of Organic/biodynamique wines by the glass - so we happily stuck with that. The accompanying food was excellent. The open kitchen gave us an opportunity to have a chat with the chef. The quality and number of staff was amazing. All in all a real find!
