“Weekend hide-a-way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

My husband treated me to a lovely weekend away at Woodlands Lodge, this was our second stay here and again we had a wonderful time.
Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious. In fact we both commented how much more comfy the bed was than our own at home!
Dinner & breakfast were both superb and I'd highly recommend eating here.
The hotel is right on the edge of the New Forest so very easy to get to and also a great location to get further into the forest.
Would definitely recommend for a cosy weekend away!

My sister got married here last year and the Woodlands Lodge made the perfect setting! The hotel itself is lovely with beautiful grounds and stunning views. The rooms were all different but all comfortable and clean. The food was delicious and has a good little bar.

But most importantly, the staff...all excellent! They could not do enough for us and so polite and friendly!

I hope to return soon!

Stayed here for 3 nights in a superior double room. Large room with plenty of space to put your things. The wardrobe was large and there was also room for a suitcase and shoes (although only 8 hangers!). For a 3 star hotel it was very good.
It's right on the edge of the New Forest so we could cycle straight from the hotel, the hotel stored our bikes in their garage. They also hire bikes out.
We regularly eat out and like our food so it was a nice surprise to find that the evening restaurant food was excellent. All the staff were helpful and friendly, we enjoyed our stay.

A perfect place for a family get together to celebrate my 40th. The staff were so helpful, food was good and facilities great. The managers looked after us all really well, including the 3 young children who had their own dinner and loved the special treatment! Would certainly recommend it for a group or family celebration.

We recently stayed for one night at woodlands lodge. This was our second visit - although we did not realise that until we arrived which is interesting! We ordered some lunch and I had a ceasar salad which was excellent as was my husbands sandwich.

I did attempt to book a table when we made the reservation but was told that was not necessary. We booked in on arrival for 8 pm. We went into the bar at 7.45 to be informed that out of the three choices on the main menu only one was now available - albeit there was a special and we could have chosen off another basic menu.

We both went with the duck - the one remaining options with scallops to start. We were initially served some lovely bread and oil as well amms a mouse bouchée - which was delicious. The scallops which followed were totally devoid of any taste! The main couse was awful - duck with skin that had no hint of crispness - a bland potato (described as fondant?) - creamed spinach which was floating in the cream and mushrooms which were totally tasteless.

Breakfast the next morning was equally poor - my husband was served poor quality bacon which was undercooked, poached eggs - partially raw and baked beans that were definitely not Heinz! My smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were only marginally better. The bread was also poor quality.

Al in all a very disappointing experience and I don't think we will make the mistake of booking this hotel a 3 rd time!!!

Very very surprised that they boast of culinary excellence and their well stocked garden.

Notwithstanding the above the room and location are excellent - but not enough!!! Just glad we were only booked in for one night!!!

We've just come back from a couple of days here. The hotel backs on to the forest, and is well positioned for exploring. We booked direct and got a good deal - £94 a night b&b in a deluxe room. The room was actually one of the eaves rooms (room 1) It was a good size, with a very comfy bed and bathroom with freestanding bath and separate shower. Although the room was nicely decorated, it was a bit dark and the blinds -heavy roman ones didn't go right up so it could have done with more lamps.

We had an issue with a blown light bulb in the shower, which took 24 hours to replace when we were told 5 minutes over the phone, but otherwise, the service was very good. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was alright but not spectacular. Breakfast was the usual selection cooked to order.

If I have one criticism it is that some areas were a bit tatty, wallpaper was peeling in several places for example. Also, on first glance our room seemed clean but it felt like the less visible areas had not been well cleaned for a while.

On the whole, its a good 3 star family run hotel.
