“Great service, great hotel, but not clean!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We visited for 3 nights and found the hotel and its staff first class. The food was exceptional. It was only when we got back to the room and checked the bathroom, we found hairs on the floor, cobwebs hanging from the light, the light was held together with masking tape and the waterproof seal was hanging from it ! Strange!. We also noticed bird poo in the breakfast conservatory and though it would be gone by the next morning, but it wasn't,in fact it was never cleaned up. Wonder if it is still there yet. Shame as great hotel, great location, great staff and great food. Just sack the cleaner and get someone who cares!!!

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review, we appreciate all the feed back received. On a positive note we are delighted that you liked the hotel and that the staff were friendly and provided great service, we try very hard to ensure all our guests have a great stay. I was extremely disappointed that you did not find your room clean. We have experienced a housekeeping staff issue last week, which is now fully resolved, but this is no excuse and consequently I have spoken to all members of staff and we are implementing Management checks daily on all serviced rooms and implementing a strategy of more accountability for all Housekeeping staff to ensure 100% cleanliness consistency amongst the housekeeping team. I know that this does not make up for any problem you experienced with your room but our cleanliness standards are high priority and we hope that you will stay with us again so we can show you. Best wishes and thank you once again for reviewing the Woodlands Lodge.

This hotel was recommended by some dog owning friends who had stayed earlier this year. The Duty Manager was very welcoming and the staff helpful and attentive. Our room, a deluxe double, was spacious and there was plenty of room for us and our dog. The en suite bathroom was of a good size although the shower was a bit small but the bath was very good. They have a paddock at the back which leads directly in to the New Forest. This is not a modern hotel but that is part of its charm as it has a very welcoming feel.
Although the dinner menu was not huge (approximately six options per course and a daily special) there is plenty to tempt you and they also have a bar menu available.
A very good location for touring the area.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are sunnier and overlook the garden and forest. The car park is at the front.

We wanted to find a hotel to take our dog and this fitted the bill perfectly
We had a room with direct access to the garden and the New Forest -the food was good, staff friendly and attentive -
Would come again if accompanied by the dog, she loved it.

Cute lodge, friendly and helpful staff, room of a decent size, shower room ok size, location fine, breakfast good.
Complimentary water bottles and biscuits.
We had a nice time, so no complaints but a few little niggles.
Shower room wasn't cleaned properly.
No liquid hand wash. They did provide a soap bar but it was impossible to wash off. I would suggest a liquid soap dispenser in the shower and above the sink that can easily be topped up.
Shower was nice and big but water pressure was too weak to rinse my very long hair properly.
Shower room didn't really have anywhere to place toiletries. Although a small glass shelf is above the sink.

This was my second visit to Woodlands Lodge. I had enjoyable stay there last year and so chose to take my friend and dog there to celebrate my 50th birthday. This time I had a ground floor room which was more convenient dog-wise. It was comfortable and had wifi which I appreciated. There is no point staying here if you what you want is luxury chic, the charm of the place lies in its faded grandeur. It is a sort of dowager duchess of hotels and all the more interesting and enjoyable for that. Our room was spotless. The food is wonderful and the staff friendly. The location is great - you can walk straight into the New Forest from the hotel grounds. The hotel is very dog-friendly

I booked this as a surprise night away for my parents in the middle of July. Imogene was extremely kind and let me book just one night for them at the weekend and even offered to have wine and flowers put in the room on arrival. As my dad doesn't drink, she offered a reasonably priced cake instead, which I have to say was very nice. The room was a good size and the bed I'm told was really comfortable. I can't thank Imogene and her staff enough for their warm welcome, helpful and friendly greeting and correspondence, and for making my parents' stay special. I will definitely go there myself at some point!

Had a lovely relaxing Sunday lunch. very polite staff esp the head waitress. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a large party but we were still looked after so well.
Food delicious the pud was so light. As a coffee drinker was great to have a pot instead of just one cup, I always have to order a second cup (tea drinkers always get a pot).
Hidden gem the the New Forest well visit again very soon
