We had a received a red letter day voucher as a gift from a family member, and we were very much looking forward to our night at this hotel. The receptionist at check in was very friendly and helpful, and the lounge was welcoming as was the guest sitting area, all public area's were very nice, the roaring coal effect fire was a nice touch.
Our room was on the first floor and was nice and warm, smallish but at least the bed was nice and comfortable, however the floor was very creaky as you walked on it!so loud we tiptoed to try and be quiet.
Our room seemed to be above the swimming pool as we could smell the strong chlorine coming up through the fllor boards as soon as you walked in,the pong choked us a bit!!
Also our room was at the back of the hotel so we could hear the kitchen staff banging and moving things around.
Also the people above us made loads of noise late into the night!! We could hear them walking around and as they had kids they were jumping and running in room so it sounded as though they would come through the ceiling! We could also hear their conversations, as I am sure they probably could hear our tv,and us if we didn't whisper which we always do at night in hotels as not to upset anyone.
The bathroom wasn't too bad, but the cistern took a long time to fill up once flushed. The TV was nice as was the bed, nice and warm and comfortable. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were good, perhaps a few more milks needed.
So because we had a red letter voucher it seemed you get the cheap back of the hotel accommodation, and all the noise that goes with it! But the location is lovely, right in the New Forest surrounded by trees and ponies and cows! Very quiet area but the hotel needs a little tlc. But the staff were very friendly and service good, although we both felt a full breakfast should be included and not a limited choice unless you wanted to pay the extra £2.50!
lots of refurbishment going on with a few skips and vans on grounds so perhaps those whom have back rooms should be given the full breakfast as compensation for the noise and lack of view??????
Oh must not forget to mention young Aimee who was very professional and friendly.
