Description: The Queens Head is situated some six miles from the nearest town in the very picturesque village of Burley, on the edge of the New Forest. We are a country pub with country ways attracting clientele who enjoy seeing the wildlife and variety of animals in the surrounding fields. These include deer, ponies, cows and donkeys. The pub dates back to 1645 and is rumoured to be an old smugglers haunt. This was reinforced when, during a refurbishment, treasures like old pistols, coins and bottles were uncovered here. There is also an alleged underground tunnel running between Burley Manor public house and this one. The front of the building has never been changed and inside has retained original features from at least 100 years ago. With alcoves, nooks and crannies, you can hide away and enjoy a quiet drink or meal. Meals can be enjoyed in the restaurant or outside in the garden during the summer months. This is a lovely old pub frequented by really friendly local characters and passers by alike.

“Lovely Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014 via mobile

Having just read the previous reviews we must have been in a different pub, our meal was great served by extremely friendly staff and was cooked superbly, cannot fault it. The decor was nice as was the log fire, warm and cosy. Would definitely go again. Also there were dogs in the bar and they were very welcomed, surely any responsible dog owner would not mind staying off the carpet with mucky dogs, there is a rather large tiled area.

“lovely lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Came across this country pub by accident but what a little jewel. My husband and I had the pulled pork apple and cheese ciabatta which was fantastic and even better sitting near the log fire on a crisp day. The service given was great and we wished we had found this little gem earlier instead of on our last day in the Bournemouth region worth visiting it only took about twenty minutes by car lovely surroundings in the new forest tranquil.

“Disappointing food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We visited this pub instead of our usual haunt to try the food. It's nice inside, very old building but nice bar etc.

We ordered the haddock cheese spinach dish from the menu but when it arrived it was seriously bland and was served with peas and potatoes that had just been thrown on . It just wasn't very nice or tasty but maybe something else from the menu would have been better.

The young man who served our food was very good though, very polite.

We wouldn't visit again though simply because the food wasn't very nice. Very disappointed because we were looking forward to what could have been very good.

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

Had lunch here with family in November 2013. Was nice food, reasonably priced and lots of character. There is also a pensioners menu which went down well. Lovely to see horses in the car park too.

“Quite good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We've eaten here a few times, the food is always ok but arrives quite quickly, I want to believe its fresh and it could well be. The service is always good, and in the summer it's always really busy!
