“Lovely surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

Having read reviews about this hotel I was half expecting a tumbledown wreck, that is so wrong yes there are parts to work on but none of them spoilt a short break of 4 days they served gluten free meals for my wife my meals were very good indeed breakfast superb. The room was spacious(no 48)with a rear door onto lawn areas with views of deer on nearby land, the bed was comfortable slept very well indeed,so I think it was excellent value all staff were pleasant and helpful I can't be more honest I could have photos of abit of paint flaking but I saw workmen every day as it's been taken over recently so I've no doubt this magnificent building will be fully restored soon,

we had a nice w/e break once we found where we were staying it is a very old hotel but all the staff are very good at there jobs and the food was most excellent all the rooms were a bit shabby but the manager told us new owners had only taken over the other week and were going to spend over 4 million pound to fetch it back to how it should be all our party said we would like to stay for a longer break next time it should be updated by then

Room Tip: all rooms about the same

I was given a 2 night gift certificate for my 50th Birthday and we decided to go a few months later on our 30th Wedding Anniversary, adding a night to get a longer break. Burley village is lovely, some interesting shops, and nice pubs, horses roaming free. The hotel is in a fabulous location, really quiet, deer in the field. The staff are friendly enough, but at the same time there's an underlying lack of real caring there, you don't feel like they're really that bothered.
So, to the hotel itself......our room was not in the main part of the building, it was 'round the back' down a long corridor, past the kitchen, down another corridor, turn right, turn left, got there in the end. The place was practically empty so I don't know why we didn't get a proper room, but anyway. It was, like everything else, tired, slightly worn out, dark, curtains were torn, window catches were broken, bathroom mirror light didn't work and the shower curtain was missing quite a few of the rings, but clean, so didn't feel we had a right to complain. I was almost hoping the toilet would overflow or something so we'd have a reason to ask for a room change. What we did have though, was a lovely view of the deer park which was gorgeous in the mornings before the fog burned off, just a shame we were seeing it through a not perfectly clean window.
I was really looking forward to the trip and the New Forest did not disappoint, The Burley Manor Hotel did though. If someone bought it and did a total refurb on it, I'd probably go back, but not until then.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room in the main building. I don't know if they are better, but they reall...

This really is a beautiful building in a lovely location. I would like to be able to give a rating of four but there were just too many little things that push it down to a three. It is a bit tired and a bit eighties but in many ways the charm of the building over rides this. The service was patchy - pleasant welcome at reception but had to wait nearly 20 mins to get a drink at the bar. The breakfast was plentiful if a tad oily. The room - (room 30) was clean but the shower was practically unusable as there was no where to put the shower head above waist height - if you tried to hold it above your head there wasn't enough water pressure.

We stayed at Burley Manor for 3 nights over the Easter period. It is a charming hotel in a great location. Yes, it does need some TLC but we had no complaints with our room in the 'outbuildings wing'.Our room was furthest away from the main building, large, clean and with lovely views to look out on. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food here is excellent and we would say that the breakfasts are among the best we have ever had in a hotel ! We would have liked to know a lot more about the history of Burley Manor House though, which could have be added to the information book in our room.

We have stayed here a few times now, and this time was as good as it always is.
Hotel is just full of character, and the setting and views are great.
Our room was really cosy and comfortable.
All the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The food is excellent.
What more can we say apart from highly recomended and we will be staying again

I purchased a Groupon type voucher for afternoon tea for two. It cost £16 on the deal and was supposed to be £37.90 full price. Driving up to the Hotel is quite impressive, its a beautiful looking building in lovely surroundings. Unfortunately the hotel is in need of a lot of money spending on it, It's very tired. Wall paper torn and hanging off in many places, carpets worn through. Basically it needs bringing up to date. The reception lady was checking someone in when we arrived so i walked into the bar to ask where we needed to go and the two people behind the bar carried on talking, looked at me and then walked away through a door. The lady who did serve us was lovely, very attentive. We were the only people booked in that day for tea so had the place to our selves. The tea itself was disappointing, no finger sandwiches, just four quartered sandwiches with crusts on, although nice, not what you expect for afternoon tea. In addition to this was one slice of Victoria sponge each (not fresh cream) and one fruit scone (normally you get a plain and fruit one each) with clotted cream and Jam (no choice of jam). For £8 each this was ok, nice in fact, but if i'd paid full price, i would have have been very disappointed. I really don't see how you could get away with charging £38 for it, unless if you pay full price you get something we didn't??!! I wouldn't go back based on my experience, there are better places charging less in the area.
