“Sunday Roast - might as well be canteen grub”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

Sunday Roast - 2 meats, beef and pork both pre-sliced, bulk buy rubbish. Potatoes were mostly soft with very little 'crisp' and NO GREEN VEG. Presentation was unenthusing as an array of brown and yellow food sat before me - it would have been nice to have a few peas at least, if only for the colour and look of it. Other meals bought were very good and the kids' sausages especially. Service was fine. Table ok but poorly lit and had to move the light to see better.

Verdict: don't get the roast! Sit by the fire, have a nice drink, have a meal but expect it to be busy and don't get the roast

Nice setting and building but they are the only nice things you could say about this abomination of culinary distress. Veg soup was mashed potato and a little mashed parsnip so bad it was sent back when the burgers finally arrived after 40 mins they were so overlooked I thought the chef was trying to cremate the dead cow in short awful keep walking you will come to something better as it woul be very hard tO find worse.

On arrival, when trying to book a table, we were greeted by a very unfriendly woman (I think she was the manageress) with a curt 'I'm not here'. We were put in a very cold part of the pub with all the radiators switched off. When we asked the waitress if we could have some heating she said she was going to find out. When nothing happened after half an hour, I asked her again but nothing was done for the duration of our meal. I think it's unacceptable to have to eat in a freezing room in the middle of winter. We noticed that other guests ate with their coats on, like we did. If the reason was cost or the environment I still feel they could have warmed the room up for an hour before the guests' arrival and, in any case, accede more graciously to our requests rather than ignoring us.

We ate here twice in a recent visit to Burley. The staff were excellent, as was the food. We were informed of a wait for our meal during lunch because it was very busy but the food arrived early. We also had an evening meal which was again excellent.

The pub has 3 open fires and had a live band on in the evening. Well worth a visit!

My Lover & I recently dined at The Queens Head. On arrival at the bar we were greeted with a "gruff" from the barman named Martin! We found a table near to the open fireplace & perused the menu. The pub was quiet with just a handful of locals with their dogs (how uncanny that dog owners often resemble their own pets!). I waited for five minutes at the bar just to place a food order as the one barman had disappeared. We saw the Landlady (Louise) who walked around with total apathy & detachment from paying customers in her pub. Later we had to wait yet again at the bar for another drink to be served as the bar was uninhabited! We recommend that no one should visit this pub during this century.

We were in Burley for 2 nights and both nights we ate here. The food was lovely and both nights I had the Fish and Chips and for 2 meals for £9.95 it was really good value for money. The second night we did have a bit of a wait but was told of this at the time of ordering so wasn't a problem but then it was busier as we also were visiting during the weekend of the Cider Festival. When in Burley again we will be back.

We are frequent visitors to the Pub and particularly enjoy fish and chips for 2 at £9.95
There is a welcome open log fire and the staff are friendly
It is probably the most popular pub for local residents in the village
Just a pity that they no longer serve Ringwood Best bitter
