There are three things which really matter in a pub-restaurant,
First impressions are important and the general ambience of the location and outlet are geat. This has to be a hit with the lake in front of the pub, and the hi-tech park within which it is situated, with ample parking except at peak times. On the demerit side, internally the furniture is getting very tired and well overdue for renewal. Mr Wetherspoon please note!
Secondly, the welcome and service are the vital ingredients in creating happy customers. My experience is that all staff are cheerful, efficient, knowledgeable and go that extra couple of miles to be sure you are happy.
Thirdly, they are limited by the universal Wetherspoons formula, meaning the menu is cheap-and-cheerful and finish-cooked to a standard manual specification. But then at these very low prices in a nationally known chain, could you really expect a gourmet experience? Suffice to say, they do their very best to please in this area also, leaving the customer to choose wisely (or not!) from a wide range of standard and specialist items including veggie, low fat and so on. Look out for special offer days - their 'Fish Friday' is a highlight for me with all ingredients cooked fresh to order - not overcooked on a hotplate for hours.
Put simply, I always look forward to those occasions I can get there.
