“Like a big, fancy UFO which has landed on the wrong planet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2006

A nice, Four-Stars-Hotel - located in a neighborhood with small workshops, garages, a tile-factory, outlet stores and a shopping-mall... I would call it a big, fancy UFO which has landed on the wrong planet. One thing is sure: You need your own car to go there and get around. Public transport is scarce! The beaches and the town of Wismar are about 6 km away, but once you get there, cou can enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of Germany.
Three things in this hotel are clearly above average:
First: The staff makes you feel that they really love their work. They all interact just like a big family. We stayed there for the holidays, and they organized an unforgettable New-Years-Eve.
Second: This hotel is extremely child-friendly. Children up to 5 years stay with their parents for free. And "for free" really means for free: The complimentary extra-bed, the meals, even the orange-juice and apple-juice in the evenings for the kids don't cost you a cent. They also have a nice children-playcorner in the hotel. But if you come without children and you simply want to have it quiet: Don't be afraid: We were only about three or four families with children at that time. Most families with children are rather looking for places closer to the beach.
And third: The food is really extraordinary. Not for the choice, but for the quality: They seem to have hired the Chef of a gourmet-restaurant for their kitchen. It is simply... WOW!

But there are also a few things which are clearly just average or even below the standard of other 4-stars-hotels: The rooms - and especially the bathrooms - are rather small. The pool area (with 2 different saunas, jacuzzis, solariums) is very nice, but was most of the time overcrowded: During the holiday season, the hotel was so packed with people, that even the restaurant-space was scarce. So they put a part of the people into the conference-hall for dining. The food is the same there, same excellent quality, same excellent service - but some of those who had to sit there (we were fortunate enough to find places in the restaurant) told us that it felt a bit like dining in a working place.

Despite these minor inconveniences, this hotel is a great place to stay. The New-Years-Eve-Party was the best we had for years. We will certainly come back to this place!
