“Most enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2010

We stayed for one week. We had a very pleasant room which was as described in the brochure. We had a great welcome and all the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We explored the beautiful Antrim coast and also spent a day in Donegal, driving up to Malin Head. Quiet empty roads and no car parking fees in beautiful coastal view points.

I got married in Ardtara House & have returned several times to dine there. Regarding my wedding, I could not have picked a nicer, classier spot - the Manager, Valerie, was so helpful, warm & friendly. Don't know how she does it, but she remembers everyone's names whenever we've returned to the restaurant. We stayed overnight in the hotel - the rooms are all different, some are nicer than others but they're all charming. Have great memories of Ardtara!

We have just returned from a long weekend in the Ardtara. Its a lovely old house, very nicely furnished, beautiful gardens and close to the lovely Sperrins. The two outstanding areas of service were the warm and friendly staff, who could not do enough for us....far above and beyond the call of duty, and the fantastic chef. Dinner in the restaurant matched and bettered many 5 star London venues. We were only in this location to attend a wedding, but we have decided we will certainly go back, as we enjoyed it so much. Nothing was too much trouble in this hotel, a real treat.
Highly recommended.

My wife, Joan and our 30 year old son John, spent four special days at the Ardtara last month. Of special note was the service and attention to detail provided by Valerie, our hostess and Brian, the sous chef, bartender and assistant manager. While I am not certain all of these titles are official, I am aware all these duties and functions were performed flawlessly by these two. We were warmly greeted on our arrival at this lovely turn of the century country house and shown forthwith to our spacious rooms overlooking the grounds, which were special in themselves. Lots of trails to explore. Son John and I were there to play golf, on the recommendation of Jim Finegan, the golf writer who also referred us to the Ardtara. All of the courses we played were within a 30-45 minute drive on good roads (Castlerock, Port Stewart, Portrush, etc.)

We first arrived at Ardtara in January unannonced and were treated as though we were the only guests to grace their front door. We decided that as a result of this treatment that we would have our wedding reception at Ardtara and over the 6 months leading up to the wedding day we found all the staff to be exceptional and so welcoming. The guests were all treated in the same manner and all of them (young, old and with babies) made a point of commenting on the exceptional welcome they receieved. I wouldn't normally provide feedback but such was our experience that I feel Ardtara deserves recognition for the exceptional level of service. Food was also very good but this is often subjective but the friendly and extremely high level of service is faultless. We had 85 guests who share this view.

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Ardtara House in May. Our room was delightful -- lovely furniture, great fireplace, and a fabulous bathroom. Lots of space. We received a warm welcome, and dinner was a fantastic experience. We're still talking about the mushroom soup! The staff are fantastic and helpful, and it's a great location for visiting Giant's Causeway and Derry.

Having no knowledge of this particular area we booked a 2 night stay at Ardtara based solely on its website and some positive reviews on TripAdvisor. We were looking for somewhere quiet, with a country house feel, comfortable surroundings and excellent food. Ardtara met these expections in full.

Having stayed at many highly rated, but characterless hotels, we found the building, gardens and the 1st class service provided by staff all combined to make this place and our stay a little special.

There is a word of caution, if you want to avoid driving there is little else nearby and Ardtara is certainly not for the party animal, Make sure you take the right company with you.
