We stayed at the Villa Rizzo and were recommended to this restaurant. It was just a 2 minute drive away. Though we didn't know what to expect, we were treated to an amazing experience. Seated out on the patio on a summer evening, we watched the sunset reflect off the hills. It was gorgeous. We were the only customers, but the hosts, a husband and wife team, gave us all their attention. We ordered their recommendations. For the appetizer they gave us the sampler -- amazing! It consisted of small potato pies covered in delicious sauces, as well as a "cannoli" roll of ricotta cheese surrounded by fried potato threads. I believe there was also julienned vegetables shaped like a sushi roll, straight from their garden. For the pasta, they gave us spaghetti with anchovies and toasted hazelnuts, picked from the trees surrounding the patio. The hazelnuts were heavenly -- fresh and crisp! Then we shared a very large grilled steak served on a hot stone. Each dish was delicious as well as beautifully presented. The host recommended a paired wine, not sure what it was but it was good. We were too full for dessert. The host also told us about the history of the building, how it was built around a 300-year-old farmhouse. The inside of the restaurant was gorgeous -- elegant, contemporary decor. The room with the old stone arched ceiling was beautiful.
Overall, it was an incredible experience of an Italian meal and Italian hosts who made us feel at home. We had a fun time watching the wife call their cat to eat. The cat obviously responded to "Mangiare!" and came running over in a hurry.
