We met our partners, who had spent several days walking Offa's Dyke, at this, their last stop. We had Sunday lunch, which was excellent and for me included luscious Moroccan orange cake and cinammon ice-cream - when I complimented the landlady she introduced me to the lady who baked them and who was there for Sunday lunch too! It's a pub you feel really is at the heart of the community.
We were so impressed that, when the walkers started the next leg of the journey, we all stayed at the Crown for supper and b&b. Again, great value meal in the bar by a roaring fire, delightful sevice and then comfortable night's sleep before excellent breakfasts. This has been a hard winter for Longton's hill farmers but the welcome at the Crown was as warm as our cosy rooms.
Walking or not, I'm sure we'll head back for food and an overnight stay again soon.
