“Family fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We spent a fantastic five nights here with our two children aged 3 and 6 years. The yurts were beautiful, comfortable, extremely clean and tastefully furnished. All the facilities were well thought out, from the showers to the communal barn with kitchen facilities. The kids had a great time on the site, making friends and taking part in Robert’s bush craft courses. There is plenty to do in the local area, which is extremely beautiful. We hope to return soon! We stayed in 1 of 4 yurts at Auvergne Naturelle for 4 nights in Aug 11 with our 2 sons, aged 4 & 12 years.
We arrived at 8pm after an eightish- hour but stress free drive from Calais, & were greeted by a lovely evening meal which we prebooked, available 3 evenings a week. Hosts Rob & Kathryns' home cooked food was hearty & tasty, & the included wine was flowing. The other yurts were occupied by families with children of various ages. Everyone was laid back- no wonder in such a relaxing location- & the children all formed their own little tribe, collecting logs for the camp fire every evening.
A hearty breakfast is served in the communal dining area each morning with fresh bread, pastries, fresh fruit, teas & coffee.
Each yurt has its own kitchen area with a small fridge & 2 ring burner, so it's easy to prepare basic food for the family. There is no pressure from the hosts to have dinner on the nights they cook, but most people choose to do so as it's a great opportunity to socialise & good value.
There is plenty to do in the area, we visited a local lake with a beach which was perfect for a swim with the kids. We chose to take part in the bushcraft activities run by Rob- the boys did firelighting & den- building, also a huge hit with the dads.
Accommodation is cleaner than some 5 star hotels we've stayed in, and we had plenty of towels provided & our own composting toilet (fascinating for the kids!) & a shower with a fab view.
Rob, Kathryn & their delightful girls were wonderful hosts- so friendly but unintrusive. A holiday with the best of both worlds for families.

Great holiday in lovely off beaten track French location. The Yurts were very spacious and best in glamping, the hosts fantastic and a holiday that attracts lovely laid back families and travellers.

We had a wonderful four-day stay here in the middle of our honeymoon. The high points for us being the amazing setting, the luxurious yurts themselves, the unique shower facilities and above all, the hosts Rob & Kathryn who went the extra mile (or several) when our canpervan broke down and we were stranded! Extra points for recommending the Auberge in Chassignolles which gave us a great dining experience too.

Our family (myself, my husband and two daughters, aged 5 and 7) stayed at the Auvergne Naturelle Yurts for 7 nights during August. The yurt was of excellent standard - clean, extremely comfortable and with lots of 'typically French touches'. There was a cosy king size double bed with a lovely thick duvet for the cooler nights and the children each had a camp bed with sleeping bags and blankets. Each yurt had it's own composting toilet and shower room with hot water at all times. In addition, for each yurt there was an allocated space in the self catering barn. This was extremely well-equipped with cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery etc. Breakfast was included in the cost of the stay and was of top quality. Evening meals served 3 times per week were very tasty and Katherine and Robert had thought menus through so that they would be suitable for both children and adults.
The children loved running free at the hilly wooded site and making friends with others from the 2 additional yurts. They particularly loved visiting the fairy garden on a daily basis. Other favourite activities of theirs were: paddling in the nearby river and making natural boats and bridges to test out, taking a 'pack-donkey' for a day's walk - we only made it carry our picnic lunch and our youngest daughter a short way, canoeing and visiting local castles, watching the camp fire, lakes etc.
We would definitely recommend yurt holidays at this location as we felt that we were made very welcome and we couldn't fault the service in any way.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Auvergne Naturelle with our two young boys. The yurts are beautifully decorated with a seating area outside and a couple of hammocks as well as a proper compost toilet discreetly behind it. It's a perfect mix of being outdoors and totally part of nature whilst being extremely well looked after by the very hospitable owners, Rob and Kathryn. The bushcraft courses are excellent and very relaxing and the fairy garden and bug/insect research enchanted the children. Although there is plenty of opportunity to chat and socialise with the people staying in the two other yurts there's also a lot of privacy. The barn area is well equipped for cooking meals and the breakfasts provided are delicious. The scenery is stunning and it's such a unique, relaxing experience for a holiday that we can't recommend it more highly.

Our family, of six, with four children under the age of 10 stayed at this fabulous yurt campsite last week, and had a really excellent holiday. The yurts are truly luxurious, beautifully decorated, and in themselves a thing of beauty. Six of us fitted in one yurt, comfortably. At night the sky was so clear you could see the stars through the canvas roof, and when you woke up in the morning, you could see the shadows of the leaves moving above you, and with the exception of one or two cars passing per day, the only sounds were the stream gurgling at the bottom of the meadow, the birds, and the breeze in the trees. The toilets are self composting and more user friendly than I had imagined, each yurt has its own individual shower, which has been built with a great deal of thought and care. The setting and views are stunning. The owners Kathryn and Robert really went the extra mile to ensure that we were all happy and had everything we needed. They have gone to great trouble over the little details that make all the difference, and aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The bushcraft courses are highly recommended, our kids haven't stopped telling everyone they know about them. The location is quite remote, so if you need a pub and a starbucks within walking distance then this isn't for you, but we all felt that this was a perfect family holiday for us, and really good value. None of us wanted to leave after our stay and we would highly recommend to anyone looking for this type of holiday.
