Bottom line up front:
A luxurious and spacious condominium, manned by an incredibly friendly and accommodating staff, all nestled in a secluded, quiet, and beautiful location. Will we go back? Absolutely. However, if you’re reading this and trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger, here some more details...
Caveat: We’ve never been to Mexico and really didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised, many times over.
Booking our stay with Monica couldn’t have been easier. We nailed down the details over the phone and she promptly emailed me our contract – which I requested prior to sending our PayPal deposit. About a week before we arrived, Monica even sent me an email just checking to see if there would be anything in particular we might need before we arrived. I responded with some concerns and she promptly answered them.
We landed in SJD and made the relatively painless drive to the Pacifico. We arrived later than expected so after peeking my head in the main office, Tony (the on-site developer) warmly greeted us and very cordially showed us through the main gate (it’s a gated community), to our room, and gave us a thorough once-over with regard to room access, on-site amenities, etc. Before leaving he noticed a light bulb was burned out and immediately returned with a new bulb in hand.
Anyhow, beyond the hospitality of the wonderful staff, here are all other important details.
Condo luxuriousness: 5 out of 5. My wife got a little sketched out by the dark drive to the condo (street lights apparently are not a thing on Mexican highways), so to say that she was floored when we walked into our one bedroom condo would be an extreme understatement. The entire condo is decorated with beautiful tile work, contemporary art, and is filled with very modern-but-cosy furniture. Our condo also featured a very large kitchen, dining room, living room, and bathroom. The bedroom could certainly be considered small, but we have no complaints. Falling asleep at night to the sound of the crashing ocean waves through the open patio doors (we had two patios, one leading to the bedroom and one leading to the living room) was amazing. Furthermore, I’m certain we never actually closed or locked our patio doors for the entire duration of our stay. The laid back and friendly vibe from everyone we encountered made us feel very secure that none of our personal belongings were at risk of walking off.
Grounds layout: 5 out of 5. Pools everywhere, all done with amazing tile work and each one done in the “infinity” style – so the pools edge and the Pacific would appear to just blend together. There is perfectly manicured grass between all the sidewalks and pools, so feel free to leave your shoes and sandals at home. Of course there’s a swim-up bar, and of course there’s a hot tub. There’s even a swing set/playground set-up for those with smaller humans en tow.
Relaxation: 5 out of 5. Our goal this trip (as with most vacations) was to stay local to the condo as much as possible and thereby relax as much as possible. We met with incredible success. I arose each morning with the sun and walked the 10 minutes up the beach to the Cerritos Surf Club and got in a 2-3 hour surf session (great, fun little beach break with no urchins or other random location-specific nastiness to worry about). My wife would take the 10 second walk to the pool and post up for the day. If you’re looking for somewhere to completely unplug, this is it (although the bar/restaurant does have wireless if you need it).
On-Site Restaurant (literally, on-site and adjacent to the bar): 5 out of 5. Antonio is the executive chef and I haven’t met a more humble food genius in this life time. Not only were the dishes that he prepared phenomenal, but when my wife requested a chicken salad sandwich or a hamburger, he was able to “whip them up” as if he’d come to work prepared to serve exactly those dishes. Finally, on our last day at the restaurant, after mentioning (the day prior) that she might like a fresh lemon drink, Antonio and Tony both took it upon themselves to track us down a lemon. Seriously? Who does this? We were beside ourselves. And on the evening of our departure Tony handed us a bottle of the Tequila that they make near or on-site and asked us to come see them again.
Tony, Antonio, and Monica – we will absolutely be back. Thanks for an amazing first visit to Mexico.
Recommend a ground floor if you want direct access to the pool without having to worry about stairs...
