Last week my wife and I returned from our 2nd stay at Arriba de la Roca and can see why they were recently voted as a B&B Travelers choice winner. The meals were exceptional. We enjoyed sidetrips to Cerritos Beach, Todos Santos and Los Cabos but really enjoyed our time relaxing by the pool watching the whales migrate. It was a great vacation all the more special due to the wonderful hospitality of our hosts Maurice and Shelby.

Room Tip: All three casitas are beautiful

When we arrived at Arriba de la Roca late on Xmas Eve afternoon I couldn't believe how beautiful and tranquil it was high up on the rock overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Shelby, Maurice and Retro were waiting to welcome us like old much loved friends and I knew at that moment that our stay with them was going to be magical.
After a very diffcult 18 months during which I started two new jobs staying at Arriba de la Roca was balm to the soul. The views from the sun deck were amazing - we spent many a happy hour gazing out to sea watching whales spurting and manta rays leaping out of the water.
The Xmas Day we spent there was one of the loveliest I have ever had - Shelby and Maurice did everything they could to make everyone feel special and the meal they prepared for us all was absolutely delicious
Shelby's pre-breakfasts and breakfasts were delicious and her margaritas at sunset followed by "snacks" made it virtually impossible to leave as sitting high on the rock watching the most gorgeous sunsets followed by stargazing from the fire pit made for absolutely perfect evenings.
Everything that Shelby and Maurice provided was perfect - our bed and pillows were so comfortable we slept like babies every night.
Very sadly our stay went by far too quickly - since returning to the grey chilly UK last weekend I am already working on planning our next trip to stay with Maurice and Shelby early in 2014!

Room Tip: We stayed in Pacifico which was pefect - but all rooms looked lovely

Arriba de la Roca was the highlight of our trip to Baja. Shelby and Mauricio have created a truly incredible paradise arriba de la roca. Every detail of Arriba is perfect. Breakfasts and evening dinners were outstanding. Our Christmas dinner felt like a dinner amongst family and yet we had only arrived that day. Shelby and Mauricio did everything they possibly could to make our stay relaxing and romantic.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We will most certainly be seeing you again.

XOXO

My husband and I spent four nights with Shelby, Maricio and Retro and we would happily have spent four more. That they managed to build on top of the rock is amazing. The setting, the pool, the living room, patios, fire pit and guest rooms are all just beautiful. Their hospitality was perfect. We could be as together with our hosts and the other guests or as alone as we wanted. The view out over the Pacific with the waves crashing at the base of the cliff was mesmerizing. Although too rough for swimming, the beaches are empty and endless in both directions and great for walking. We enjoyed our morning walks with their charming dog, Retro. We were there over Thanksgiving and the whales were already starting to migrate. We saw several every day.

We enjoyed our afternoons in Todos Santos and on Cerritos beach and will visit both again when we return, and we will return! Next time we will devote more time to this remote Pacific gem 74 kilometers north of Cabo. I hope to come back in January or February when the whales are in full migration. It is a very easy hour and a half drive from San Jose del Cabo. Next time we will take Shelby's advice and rent a four wheel drive. Some of the roads to the beaches off of the highway are pretty rough. The road up to the house was daunting at first, but in the end it was fun, even in our little rental car.

We enjoyed the other guests and we all had such a great time over Thanksgiving that we all booked, individually, not as a planned group, to come at the same time next year. I hope that Kelly and Jac have great luck buying a property, so that they can join us all for a few meals next year, but leave a room for us to bring some friends who we know will love the place like we all do. I expect that most of the guests are relatively like minded. It is a bit of an adventure, but very luxurious. Very peaceful and quiet, but somehow the time passes very quickly. One minute we were watching the sun rise over the mountains and the next we were being served late afternoon margaritas by the pool. The early morning beach walks and whale watching were soon followed by a candle lit dinner under the stars. If you enjoy just being in very comfortable accommodations and communing with nature you will love Arriba de la Roca. If you need night life and shopping, it will not be for you.

Shelby will give you perfect directions. Ask her where to stop on the way through the Cabo corridor to buy some wine. If you do or not, your cup will never be empty. She and Maricio provide all of the food and drinks you will need and then some, but I would have been happy to contribute more than we did.

I fear the only bad thing we will ever have to say about ADLA is that it will be booked when we want to stay there. In a way, I wish they had a few more rooms, but there is nowhere on top of the rock to put them and the fact that there are only three, or possibly four, is what makes it so perfect. Maybe a few self catering casitas at the base of the rock would be a good addition.

Thank you Shelby and Maricio for a lovely time! We hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I just returned from our second stay with Shelby and Maurice at Arriba de la Roca and, not to be a drama queen, but I actually cried when we left. It takes special people to have created such a beautiful and peaceful environment, and to take such care of their guests. Shelby and Maurice area really lovely. It can feel pretty harsh to leave that environment and return to the daily grind! Ha! Arriba de la Roca is a very unique and distinctive place, and it is perfect for those seeking to withdraw from daily life to spend quality time with loved ones, enjoy the beauty of nature, and/or reflect on what's important to you. As many places as I've traveled, I've never experienced anything quite like it. The sunsets, the whale-watching, the delicious breakfasts and dinners on the patio, and the company are all really special. Just like the first time we visited, we had intended on getting out and "doing more" in the surrounding area, but, once we unpacked on the top of the hill, there really just wasn't a compelling enough reason to leave. Just such a relaxing and rejuvenating environment! Thanks Shelby and Mauricio (and Retro!) We will see you again soon.

Room Tip: We have stayed in Boca two times, but we've seen all of the rooms. I don't think you can re...

Ok, none of us like to give up our best secrets, but in fairness to Shelby and Maricio we must in this case. We just returned from Thanksgiving at ADLR and wow, we've already booked for 2013! The vistas, the food, the rooms, the pool and spa, the firepit and the company.....oh yes and the fresh coffee outside our door each morning, oh and the massage Friday and Saturday afternoon, hmm what am I forgetting? Retro, our morning canine friend, what a great addition to the wonderful ambiance.

We had thoughts of going into todos santos or Cabo for dinner one night, not a chance, instead we had amazing outdoor dining, wine and stargazing, how can you leave.
Ok, enough said. Oh one more thing, no TV's and telephones (ok we had Internet but that was to check the swell for Cerritos!), that was great!

Anyway, you must visit this heaven on earth before you can't get in. We've stayed at Las Ventanas, Palmilla, Esperanza, Punta Ballena and Cabo Surf. They are all nice, but if you want special and really want to be with the one you're with, you must do Arriba de la Roca, really.......

Room Tip: Each of the three casitas are unique and special!
