“DINNER HERE WAS EXCELLENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We did not stay here but came for dinner. Not easy to find but a pleasure when we arrived to a beautiful location on the beach. The chili relleno was the best ever. So if you are in the area and looking for a great place for dinner, this is worth the effort.

I've travelled all over the world and stayed in places like the Four Seasons and Ian Schrager properties, so I was a bit surprised to be so thoroughly impressed by Rancho Pescadero. It's a little hotel out in the middle of the desert near Todos Santos, but it is just one of the most well-run hotels anywhere.

When you arrive, you are greeted like an old friend and shown to the bar for a complimentary drink while your bags are magically whisked away to your room. Coffee and fresh fruit show up at your door every morning. And the property is just drop-dead gorgeous - two nice swimming pools (one by the bar for socializing and a quieter one if you want to be alone), a jacuzzi, a firepit. We stayed in room #11, which was big and bright, stylish in a minimalist way, and had a balcony looking over the ocean.

The staff at Rancho Pescadero really do treat you like family, and here's what I mean by that: the second day we were there, we pulled over to the gas station near the hotel because one of our tires on our dinky little rental car was going flat. We're trying to figure out what to do when Don, the general manager, pulls up in his pickup truck and says "Hey, I recognized you guys from Rancho. Do you need some help?" It was his day off, and he just recognized our car and pulled over to help us out. He got the gas station attendants to fill up our tires, made sure we were alright, and hopped back in his pickup. Simply amazing.

The only negative about Rancho is that you cannot swim or surf at the beach there. It's not their fault - the surf there is just much too strong - but you do have to drive about 5 minutes to Playa Cerrito to get in some swimming or surfing.

I have never left a review on trip advisor before but I feel compelled after having my wedding there. We have visited RP for years with our family and always loved it but getting married there was the best! From the gorgeous beach front welcome dinner the day before the wedding to the goodbye brunch the day after RP did an AMAZING job. Not only were we happy, our guests could not stop raving about it- location, food, decorations, everything! Everyone is already planning their return trips! The wedding was exactly what we hoped for- RP was willing to work closely with us to make it everything we wanted. They have amazing staff- from their in-house wedding coordinator, to their assistant manager, and head bartender- everyone did a fantastic job making it perfect for us! Our guests got to do yoga every morning, surf all day, and hang out on the beautiful grounds - having the whole place to ourselves for the weekend. The food for the wedding was not only beautiful but delicious. Also, farm fresh and local- which was important to us. RP was the perfect venue to bring our whole group together- everyone from by 86 year old grandpa to my 20 year old cousin had an amazing time. Any time we did hit a few (minor) bumps in the planning process, the RP team helped solve the in a timely, professional manner. The manager made himself available with his personal cell phone in case we had any issues- I don't think many places provide service that great! I really can't say enough about the folks at Rancho Pescadero- we will be going back there for years to come. If you are considering having your wedding there I would really recommend you email them to discuss the options- they can tailor it to exactly what you want and are great at providing information for any questions!

We loved everything about our experience at Rancho Pescadero and already want to go back. We travel extensively, so have a basis to recognize real quality when we see it. The grounds are beautiful and there are many areas to sit and relax without other people around. The entire staff from bartenders to front desk to groundskeepers were so nice, but not intrusive in any way. The staff goes the extra mile...hats for you to wear, sunscreen, fresh water, etc. We spent several afternoons at Los Cerritos Bch., which we loved. Rancho Pescadero loaned us chairs and bogey boards for the day. Would definitely recommend Los Cerritos Bch. And back to the Ranch...the food. Wow! Chef Bueno seems to personally meet everyone and his food is outstanding. What a wonderful addition to this lovely hotel, to have a chef of that quality. For many years, we went yearly to the Twin Dolphin, which is now gone. Our replacement will definitely be Rancho Pescadero. We also enjoyed the no tipping until checkout. You can order anything anywhere and you just tell them your room number. You don't have to sign, figure out a tip, etc. No TVs or phones in the room, which we love. I hope this resort stays exactly the way it is...it's FABULOUS!! Seems like an ideal honeymoon or anniversary place, too.

Room Tip: Would ask for a room away from the dining area. We had Rm. 15, which was an excellent location.

My husband and I spent 2 nights of our honeymoon here after being married near Cabo in November 2012. As soon as we arrived, we were instantly relaxed as we were ushered to the pool bar for a complimentary drink, made with love and of a high quality. The grounds, staff, food, rooms, views and general overall ambiance of the place had us in complete zen. Guests stay quiet, almost whispering in the mornings everywhere on the property so you always feel relaxed and calm. There are two pools, one in the main area and the 2nd a little more hidden near where our room was (we stayed in room 20, which included our own spiral staircase down to that pool - so amazing!)

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay here - however, if you are looking for a resort style 'hotel' with top notch internet connections, a sports bar, TV's in your room, etc you will be disappointed. This is a quiet, relaxed and laid back retreat, which was perfect for us. In fact, in the two days we stayed, we never left the property. It feels like you are in a magazine spread - definitely boutique. There is a fire pit with lovely chaises near the pool that we enjoyed a nightcap around after dinner one night. So romantic!

We also enjoyed a couple's massage near the beach (in a small informal yet spa-esque hut/building near the beach but not with a view of the beach) and it was divine. The massages are in separate rooms as they do not have a couple's room. The service was impeccable and the prices unbelievably affordable. Highly recommended.

We met the head chef as he hand delivered many meals during dinners. The gnocchi was homemade and as smooth as velvet, and the homemade chocolate ice cream with a hint of cinnamon and chili was addictive. Drinks include fresh mint and basil from their garden.

Overall, I highly recommend Rancho Pescadero and was sad to leave. We will definitely be back. Treat yourself and book a couple days. Gush.

We went for a babymoon and this was the perfect spot. My husband was able to surf during the day while I went to yoga and then lounged poolside. I was pleasantly surprised that the yoga classes were actually quite challenging. We stayed in room 1 which was huge and beautiful. I guess it would have been nice to be on the second level and have a view of the ocean, but we didn't mind missing that. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was huge, the morning coffee and fruits were delicious. The staff was so accommodating. It felt like they were mind readers with how quickly they anticipated little things like bringing me water or adjusting my umbrella as the sun moved. The smoothies I had every afternoon were awesome and my husband loved the margaritas. We had most meals at the hotel and never tired of the menu - it was delicious. They had a Mexican wine tasting one night that was a fun way to try a few different wines we don't have access to at home. My only complaint would be the bugs! Thankfully not biting for the most part, but tiny little gnats that were so incredibly irritating. They had bug spray, but it was the natural kind, so not super effective. Sounds like they last through mid-winter. It was kind of a bummer because there were a few late afternoons where it would have been nice to relax by the pool before dinner and we really couldn't. I would totally recommend a trip here out of bug season.
