We booked this hotel when visiting the area for a friends wedding. There was no information on the website we booked through to say that this was a hotel in the Christian Guild association, so worth noting for anyone who that might not appeal to (though for us it was no problem). We arrived a little before check in as had travelled a long way and needed to be at our wedding early. The whole place had a completely outdated feel and it didn't feel at all welcoming. We asked if there was anywhere we could get changed as we had to dash off to the wedding. We were told there was nowhere except the swimming pool changing rooms (apparently they didn't even have a hotel toilet we could use). We asked about any opportunities for early check in and were told there would be a £25 extra charge. I know a hotel is not obliged to provide early check in, but most hotels would go out of their way to help. Instead the receptionist then said 'ok I'll do it for £15'. There was a sense that there was no set early check-in fee and it was just a 'lets make as much profit as we can' attitude.
On returning from our wedding at 11:30, we found we could not get in. Rang various doorbells, tried our key everywhere and found we were locked out. We banged on a number of doors and shouted up to the rooms for someone to let us in, but no response. We ended up finishing what was a lovely day with our friends sitting outside in the cold until 2:30 am! At this point, other guests arrived and told us they'd been given a 'night key' to get in. Had they not turned up, we would have spent the whole night sleeping rough as the place is miles from anywhere and there is no phone signal.
When we did get into the room, we found the walls were paper thin so could hear people snoring. Beds extremely uncomfy. When anyone flushed a toilet or turned on a tap it sounded like the whole building was being bulldozed. TV didn't work properly. No CD player as advertised. No Wi-fi that we could access. I think we got an hours sleep and we had to abandon our plans for the next day as we were too tired.
We complained the next morning and were given some discount, but still paid way too much in my opinion. This place, as mentioned in other reviews has the most un-Christian like attitude I've ever come across. It is outdated, unfriendly and I wouldn't recommend anyone stay there.
