“An Excellent Finish to Our Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

After spending 3weeks travelling all over Italy, we spent our last day enjoying a traditional Sunday Italian Long Lunch in the hilltop village of Caprese Michelangelo.

Overnight snow had made the roads a little icy but both levels of the restaurant were packed with locals and once we started eating we saw why. The food is authentic and plentiful.

I would suggest on planning to arrive no later than 12.15 in order to get a good car park. You can enjoy sensational views while you wait.

We sat down at 1pm for the degustation menu. We were glad we arrived hungry.

Courses are served continuously and for the seriously hungry there are seconds offered on most courses. However I suggest that most people will want to pace themselves in order to be able to finish.

In spite of eating adventurously for 3weeks we still encountered dishes here we hadn't see before.

Every single course was excellent. There is a continuous flow of bottled water and red wine, and at €30 each all up this was pretty sensational value.

The restaurant was full of happy Italian families and the ambience was delightful. The staff are excellent and very accomplished.

We left feeling very content, and will return on our next visit to Italy.

“Always good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

When we first came to the area six years ago this was one of the first restaurants we visited.
It is one of the best places to spend a Sunday lunchtime ( which always becomes late Sunday afternoon ) with family and friends. As previous viewers have said the food just keeps coming and coming, the service is always good and it is excellent value for money. It is particularly good over Easter or during the local chestnut festival ( October ) but you must book.
The one thing that sets it apart from other local restaurants which are equally as good is the fabulous view. The restaurant clings to the side of the hill and during the autumn sunshine the colours of the trees and fields are spectacular and during the warm summer you can sit on the balcony. The restaurant is located in the old part of Caprese so after lunch you can stroll around the hill and look at the chapel and even the castle ruins which has a small museum dedicated to Michelangelo ( he was born here ). All well worth a visit.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2011

We recently had a wonderful Sunday feast at Buca Di Michelangelo, 14 courses, unlimited wine, bottles of water, 30€ per person. The lunch goes from 1-4 p.m. What a magnificent way to spend an afternoon. The friendly staff come around with platters of food, a great sampling of local specialities. We visited the restaurant 6 years ago and had to share it with the friends we were traveling with. It was an awesome day, one we will never forget. A must do if in the Anghiari region. We were fortunate to find someone to drive and pick us up at our rental house, which made the day even better.
