We we're staying Kendwa Rocks after a summer or volunteering in mainland Tanzania. As back packers we didn't have unlimited funds and we had to budget. At Kendwa Rocks the food was standard nothing exciting (you are paying more to eat at a resort), especially after eating great local food during our travels. We met with some friends from our hostel we were volunteering at and they had been recommended the fisherman's lockal, so we all headed down for dinner. it was on the back road behind all the large resorts about 2 minutes walk away for kendwa main gate, If that. The food was incredible and fresh and you get more than your moneys worth, a main fish dish and soft drink can be as cheap as 10,000TSH. Alcohol is not on the menu at this restaurant but they staff as great and they welcome you to bring your own in. We went every night and enjoyed the atmosphere and getting to no the locals and meeting other travellers. (I highly recommend the coconut fish curry or king fish). other benefits of coming out of the resorts are the shops, don't spend 3,000TSH on a bottle of water from your resort go to the locals where the shop keepers are lovely and everything is so much cheaper.
