“great surprise visit to the Bay Horse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

Hi,

Myself and my partner stayed in the Bay Horse Inn Last weekend as we were involved with a local rally and I was delighted with the experience. The manager was very welcoming and the bar staff were great. It has recently been renovated and it is really cosy, oldie worldie yet very trendy. We chatted with some local people and felt felt very much at home. The room we stayed in was lovely and relaxing, very comfy bed, Large TV, CD player with some relaxing sounds.

As I've said in a previous review the place is very good. The Staff are welcoming and friendly, menu is good. Beer was good, but could still do with 20p per pint reduction. I've now had three meals in the space of two weeks and no doubt I'll be back for more. On Saturday night the place was buzzing, a great atmosphere which is good to see. Keep up the good work....

Room Tip: I didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms

Just a quick thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write a small something about the Bay Horse. I could not have wished for things to have gone as smoothly as they have over the last couple of weeks without the staff, a big thank you to you all. and also the customers we have served so far for your support we look forward to many happy years at the Bay Horse and hope to see you all in the near future thanks.

Anyone reading the reviews for this pub needs to know the history of the last couple of years.....
After the Brewery allowed the sale of this lovely old building it was taken over and ran really well by the new owners in 2010 (Robin and Julie). Sadly due to ill health they had to sell. The owner after that was hopeless and let the place go steeply downhlll-both the building and the food. The pub then closed for a year and now is open again after a total refurbishment. I ate there last week and the food was excellent although expensive for some meals and especially the cost of the desserts.
In short you need to really ignore all reviews before June 2012 as they are no longer relevant.
Try it and judge for yourself. This will allow the new reviews to be posted and inform others based upon the new chef and owners

Room Tip: Sorry I didn't stay over but know that all the bedrooms have been totally refurbished also.

Having been a regular and local for several years i have to say wow! what a great improvement to the entire pub, the interior, menu, staff, service and wonderful guest rooms. H ad a great meal, food was tasty and well presented, and have also enjoyed a good night out for a few drinks with friends, must say give it a try you won't be disappointed.

The Bay Horse has been empty for so long now. The new owners have done an amazing job at the refurb and the food is amazing. Great for the family and a beautiful lounge for coffee's. I would recommend this inn as Stamfordham is such a beautiful little village.

The Bay Horse is under new managment, having been taken over by the people who have The Angel at Corbridge. My husband and myself have just been for a meal this tea time and I have to say the overall experience was very good. The staff were very attentive, polite and the food was cooked perfectly. I am sure we will be going again.

my wife and children visited this inn as we heard it had new managment. Upon arriving, there was an unwelcoming tall scottish gentlman at the bar who barley looked at us as we ordered our drinks. Upon finding a table -note: was not hard as we were the only ones there! we ordered venison and was totally disgusted! it was barley cooked, totally bland and the cabbage tasted like sea salt, and took over an hour to arrive. YAK! We asked to speak to the manager but we were told in short that the food we ordered was acceptable-by the waitress! we asked again for the manager but he decided to stay in his kitchen and not come out, why would anyone do this?
No offer of a refund, no offer of a replacement dish! totally disgusting. Needless to say we paid and left - FOR GOOD!
Any one visiting this disaster think again. Decided to go to the Angel in Corbridge and were very impressed! My recommendation to this pub is get a new chef, new waiting staff, and a personality transplant. Really bad. BEWARE any new visitors, we will never go back.
