“"No need to go anywhere else!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

Stayed here with my brother and sister-in-law, and all of us agree this is the place to stay!
Cold rooms, cold Tona, what else can I say! The owner Marcos is more than helpful in giving advice on the surrounding surf spots, he knows the area well and can tell you where to go for beer, pizza, even rent a motorcycle. The staff is friendly and they can cook up a good breakfast, lunch or dinner! Definitely will be staying here when I go back.

showed up to popoyo with no plans of where to stay. checked a couple places and nothing compared to the elefante! the owner marco is chill, really informative, and helps you have the best time whether surfing, eating, drinking, or just laying around in hammocks he has this place down. the house is also the sickest house in all of popoyo hands down. his staff cooks up anything you can think of for those long beach days.
if i had 4 hands, it would get 4 thumbs up!!! aloha.

Room Tip: the master suite upstairs is awesome.

my buddy and i rolled into popoyo after a long day of travelling by bus up from mal pias, cr. when we got into town we made a bunch of stops at other places to stay but where not even close to happy with the price/quality of any of these spots. luckily we bumped into a nica local michael before our cab driver ripped our heads off. long story short michael took us to the m.e. where we ended up staying for lil over 2 weeks. very close to popoyo which we caught firing for a week straight and got to see people tow into the outer reef. the m.e. is the trippiest coolest place ive ever stayed. the suite is too die for. even tho it was a lil over our budget we couldnt give it up! the views are unreal! besides the place being awesome. marcos and his staff are super friendly and cook up some wonderful meals. no menu just whatever you want. when you go dont forget to get the waffles!! will be back for sure this time with my girl so we can really enjoy the romantic sweet. instead of me and my buddy haha

My wife and brother and I stayed here for a week on a surf trip and found the place to far exceed our expectation. Marcos (owner) was a great host and went out of his way to ensure we had a great time, especially when the surf went flat and the rain started. The food was great and made to order. The atmosphere was very relaxed and if you want to get out the way and stay amongst the locals this is the place to be. It's a little remote to get to but Marcos can arrange transportation for you. Surfer's - the break out front is a bit of a close out but a 15 min walk in either direction gets you to Popoyo or a solid beach break. Next time we pass through Nicaragua we will definitley be staying here.

Room Tip: All three rooms are basically the smae size. The upstairs room has a bit more privacey.

First off there is no place like this in Nicaragua and especially in Popoyo. Marco the owner is one of the coolest guys around and will go beyond making you comfortable. If you plan on visiting the area I highly recommend you stay at the Melting Elefante!

Melting Elefante is one if not the best places in central america, in nicaragua for sure..
i was staying there for 2 weeks and it was hard to leave.. the food is great and made infront of you, the rooms are big and has everything you need inside, the place looks like a fairy tale house and the prices are fair ! moreover, there is an endless beach just outside your door wich provides some of the best surf spots around : popoyo, beach break, santana.. ect..
Another point noteworthy is that the owner of this place (marcus) is a great freindly person wich will help you with everything you need..
check other places around popoyo will be a waste of time..
ENJOY !
