“Beautiful house, very welcoming too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Amazing house - I can't wait to have an excuse to go back. The room was beautful, the breakfast excellent and the owner very welcoming. All very good value too. I wish we had more time to explore the house and the garden. A must for anyone visiting the area.

This really is a stunning house and the views from the back rooms are to die for. Patricia was very welcoming and made us a lovely tray of tea when we arrived. Breakfast was a little disappointing. Lovely cereals. yoghurt, toast with tasty preserves and fruit. The toaster sounded as quirky as the house...it only toasts on one side!!! Cooked breakfast was limited to 2 rashers, 2 eggs, grilled toms. Sausages would have been welcome but ut was fine.

No restsurant/meals at the hotel but a couple of nice pubs in the area. The Lamb Inn a 5 min walk down to the pretty village is worth a visit.

The only down sides...no shower in the Panel Room and the door to the ensuite loo and sink does not seal ...good job I know my hubby very well!! Not one for a first weekend away with your new boyfriend!! And our son enjoyed watching tv in the bath in the room.

Don't get me wrong in that what ever I write this is a great place to stay and you can't fault the owner/ host who is very attentive but allows you to feel like its a home from home and you come and go as you please. If big rooms, great breakfast, views, location, gardens etc are for you for a weekend stay in the area then this is perfect. Also if you life the olde world feel or shabbie chic as some call it then it is right up your street.

If this was not so local I could and would stay here again.

If you want an old Manor House stay type accommodation then this is pretty good as it has the big baths and 4 poster beds people expect along with a staircase and all the pictures and ornaments you would expect to find.

Room Tip: Front rooms face the road but the shutters close out the little noise there is and the rear rooms lo...

My daughter bought me a two night stay for two for my birthday (groupon deal). I have just returned and wanted to share my experience. What a lovely relaxing stay, we didnt have to travel far coming from South Wales. Compton House, a georgian property, is situated on the edge of Axbridge, a quiet little town with just a few amenities to distract you from your relaxtion. The owner Patricia is a lovely welcoming landlady, although the venue feels more like a home than an guest house/hotel. We stayed in the South Room, a charming comfortable room with ensuite and views across the garden and vista beyond. Furnished in the period with lovely fabrics and modern amenities. The deal included breakfast, which we enjoyed in the period dining room, I felt as if I had stepped back in time! As we hadnt arranged any evening meals, which I believe you can ask Patricia to cook for you, we ate on the Sunday evening in the Oak House and on the Monday The Lamb Inn. During the days we explored many of the attractions ie Cheddar Gorge, Wells, Street and Glastonbury. Wonderful!

Room Tip: South Room has lovely views

Returned to Compton House - stayed there once before, were looking for an excuse to go back. Welcomed by Patricia as old friends, tea in front of the fire on arrival, stayed in the Panel Room, unique in many ways, breakfast in front of the fire in the morning. Looking for the next excuse to return in the summer.

Room Tip: Panel room - great views, four poster, bath in room (loo and wash basin basin seperate)!

Just spent 2 nights at the wonderful elegant hotel. The owner patricia could not do enough for us. Food good and the chine service was delightful.
I felt like Lord Grantham in the breakfast room, so wonderfully English.
Axbridge itself is beautiful and a must for a visit.
Highly recommend.
