“Great Meal on Pinel Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

If you're on Pinel Island, walk past the other places and dine at Karibuni. Settle in for a leisurely lunch. We saw a lot of lobster go by, but were attracted by the local fish and didn't regret our choice. A bottle of Cote de Provence helped round it all out and make for a leisurely good meal.

“Not Sure What All The Fuss Is About”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

After reading and hearing about Pinel, we spent a day there. It was nice, but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. If you want a 'pool' for the kids to swim in while you relax in a lounge chair and/or eat a 2hr lunch, then this is the place for you (and prepare to spend $100 per adult and $50 per kid for the privilege). The beach was nice, but nothing special. The food, too, was good, but again, nothing special (and a bit heavy if you plan on being active in the afternoon). The service was on the slow side. And there's quite a scramble to catch the ferry back b/w 4:30-5. It's quite popular (we were there on a Sunday). so clearly people like it. It just wasn't for us. If we would go back, we wold likely skip the ferry, rent a sea kayak and paddle over ourselves, and then spend time on the Atlantic side and/or go snorkeling out to the reef on the south side.

“Best lunch you could get anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

It is expensive to get to Pinel but the trip is worthwhile for Karibuni. The ouassus (fresh water shrimp) and the lobster, personally chosen, are grilled perfectly and tasty. absolutely fresh. No lunch here is complete without the chocolate cake for dessert, served at your lounge chair on the beach. And the espresso is perfect.

“Lunch in paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

Pinel Island is the perfect place to enjoy the Caribbean sun away from the traffic and bustle of St Martin. Karibuni Restaurant serves lunch either on its thatch roofed deck or right at your beach chair. The lobsters looked great, but I chose a large plate of appetizers which included a very unusual preparation of calamari. The planter's punch was also delicious.

When you reach Pinel Island, turn left to reach Karibuni Restaurant. It is on the part of the beach where the surf is gentle. We enjoyed swimming and sunning, but the trade winds spoiled the visibility for snorkeling.

“lobster!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

It doesn't get better than picking out your fresh catch straight from the trap! And, the creole rice was fantastic. Right on the beach. Ferry over and check it out. Check to see if cruise ships are in port before you go. We went on a Monday, when none were, so it was quiet. No need to reserve those lobsters if you go then. Everything is generator operated there. They bring everything back on the trash boat at the end of the day. Be aware of when the last public ferry leaves. No dinner. Great place to hang for the day.
