“Amazing stay, highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Both myself and my partner have never been in a guest house before (I thought it would be a bit weird staying in what looks like someone's house) however, I couldn't have been more wrong.

We needed a hotel for the night as we were attending two training days for our company. Our room (9) was facing the main road, however traffic was pretty much inaudible. Extremely clean and owner went out of his way to fix the shower within 10 minutes of our arrival once he noticed it had broken (we didn't even notice until he pointed it out). Breakfast was amazing, so much choice with no expense visibly spared i.e. Activia yoghurt, Tropicana orange juice and free range eggs!

As others have said, the owner Paul really does go out of his way to ensure his guests are happy. We needed a place to go for dinner, and he gave us a few options, emphasising that the pathway to these places were well lit :)

Definitely will be recommending this lovely guest house to family and friends and will be visiting again soon :)

Lovely place to stay, we were shown to the room straight away. Room ok at the front of the main road so quite noisy. This dint affect our comfortable night sleep. There was a few marks on the bed sheets but it was acceptable so didn't want to make to much of fuss about this as these things happen. Breakfast was good lots of different options to choose from cereals, fruit, yoghurts my husband had the cooked breakfast which was cooked to order and he enjoyed this very much. There was a guest who came up to us during breakfast and accused us of keeping him awake through an argument we had, firstly we were on the last night on our honeymoon so it was unlikely to be us, we brought this matter to the owner of the property as I was very upset by this matter and he quickly steped in and had a word with this guest who was very rude and aggressive towards us at breakfast so we thank him for that. The man had got the wrong room number and when he was told this he quickly checked out with no apology for me and my husband. The owner felt very embarrassed that this had happened. Me and my husband both said this wouldn't affect us in staying here again. The garden at the back is also lovely with hens in the hutch.

Stayed here for one night for a wedding on the May Bank Holiday weekend, we were greeted on arrival and shown our room straight away. We were given a street map of Cambridge with the church and pubs and restaurants all marked on. Having a room you could access directly from the car park made life very easy. The only thing to bear in mind is that the walk to the station is a good 20mins at a decent pace, so if you're catching the train allow more time than we did! Taxis from Cambridge city centre ~ £15.

Breakfast was fresh cooked and excellent, with eggs seemingly coming from the chickens that roam around te garden.

Would definitely look up Silverwood Lodge if we were to stay near Cambridge again!

There's a little comfortable place close to Cambridge if you have a car. The rooms are big and the service includes a very good breakfast. The rooms in the back are quiet better than the front of the road.

Excellent B&B in Cambridge. Room was a great size with plenty of room for our toddler to sleep in her travel cot, provided by the B&B. Our room overlooked the free range chicken run which provided great amusement for our daughter and the chickens produced wonderful eggs used in our cooked breakfast. We would highly recommend this B&B.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the chickens.

We stayed at the Silverwood Lodge when visiting Anglesey Abbey. It's certainly very convenient for that. We paid £70 for a room and breakfast and I think that's value for money.

Our room needed some minor touching up to the decor but nothing that was a problem.

The double glazing works well and needs to as the lodge is on a busy road.

The Indian restaurant over the way is simply fantastic and you should definitely eat there.

We spent three nights at this immaculate establishment in Jan/Feb 2013 and were highly impressed.
The en suite rooms are of ample size and freshly decorated in bright modern style with good quality oak furniture. The rooms appear well sound insulated as we heard no intrusive noise from other residents. Similarly, although next to a busy road, the noise from the road is not in the least intrusive due to the double glazing.
The proprietor, Paul, is Silverwood Lodge's greatest asset. Very friendly and attentive to guests, Paul is a great source of local information as well as a great cook producing truly exquisite cooked breakfasts including fresh eggs from his own flock of free-range hens. He will even show you his method of cooking the eggs to perfection.
Paul is happy to allow guests to use the kitchen for drinks and snacks and there is a comfortable lounge for residents use. There is free wi-fi throughout the house.
Cambridge is a great city to visit and the colleges and museums very beautiful and absorbing. Silverwood Lodge is very close to a Park and Ride (which accepts bus passes after 09.30!) which is a great free way to get into the City and back. We were told that the City parking is otherwise expensive, and the traffic was certainly formidable at peak time. Another great day out is Duxford air museum, with a huge collection of historic aircraft.
We would highly recommend this comfortable and well-run establishment and certainly hope to visit again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8 which was at the front near the road but noise was not a problem.
