We spent three nights at this immaculate establishment in Jan/Feb 2013 and were highly impressed.
The en suite rooms are of ample size and freshly decorated in bright modern style with good quality oak furniture. The rooms appear well sound insulated as we heard no intrusive noise from other residents. Similarly, although next to a busy road, the noise from the road is not in the least intrusive due to the double glazing.
The proprietor, Paul, is Silverwood Lodge's greatest asset. Very friendly and attentive to guests, Paul is a great source of local information as well as a great cook producing truly exquisite cooked breakfasts including fresh eggs from his own flock of free-range hens. He will even show you his method of cooking the eggs to perfection.
Paul is happy to allow guests to use the kitchen for drinks and snacks and there is a comfortable lounge for residents use. There is free wi-fi throughout the house.
Cambridge is a great city to visit and the colleges and museums very beautiful and absorbing. Silverwood Lodge is very close to a Park and Ride (which accepts bus passes after 09.30!) which is a great free way to get into the City and back. We were told that the City parking is otherwise expensive, and the traffic was certainly formidable at peak time. Another great day out is Duxford air museum, with a huge collection of historic aircraft.
We would highly recommend this comfortable and well-run establishment and certainly hope to visit again.
We stayed in room 8 which was at the front near the road but noise was not a problem.
