“Worth the trip to Eyrarbakki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We've been there 5 times and every time we had an amazing meal. The lobster is incredible, the fish so fresh and and cooked to perfection... good house wine, and good value for amazing food. We always walk out of there very happy.

There are many good restaurants in Iceland, but this is a really special one. And if it's summer you can walk at the beach after the meal, and maybe spot a seal or two...

“Delicious, generous food in sleepy seaside village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

This place has a classy, clean feel about it and the food was wonderful. The "catch of the day" included lobster, cod and halibut - all three on the plate and each enough for a portion by itself. Lovely complimentary bread and dips included in the price (about £20 per head for the fish).

“Lovely restaurant along the south coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2012

I stumbled upon this restaurant on my way back towards the airport - taking a scenic route along the south coast. Someone had said it was a cute little old settlers town with historic buildings. It was cute indeed, but the weather was so (typically) bad that I didn't stop to appreciate the buildings! I saw the restaurant and was happy to see it open (a lot of places are closed in March). There was a very friendly waiter from Liverpool who I chatted to. I had the seafood soup which was delicious (although a little luke-warm) and filling. They also had delicious bread with humous, so no need for a starter! There was a party upstairs, so it's obviously a popular place. It's not far from Selfoss (about 10km south). Not too expensive either. Really nicely decorated with old radios and nice furniture, with huge windows and good music playing. Very nice place to stop from the rain for a decent meal that isn't a hamburger in a petrol station grill!

“What a great find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012 via mobile

Went to the "Red House" restaurant after a brilliant golden circle tour from the Blue House in Reykjavik. I had the Lobster tagliatelle and my girlfriend had the salted cod, both were incredible and the best food that we had in Iceland. If you miss this place than you would of missed out on something very special!

“don't miss this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

we went there with french friends (4 adults 1 child) for a dinner and it was fantastic! - even salad, lamb or fish, dessert: the food was succulent and fresh, well presented. The Rauða Húsið is a cosy place (the prices are not too expensive (for Iceland)), the staff is friendly (also with children)... don't hesitate to make a stop and enjoy it!
