“Gorgeous setting, wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

Visited in June. Many hours of daylight. Spent them enjoying the beautifully landscaped yard, looking over the quiet pasture to the beautiful lake. Chatted with the very interesting and charming hosts. Enjoyed heavenly, lhome-grown, harvested food. Hiked to the very ole ruins of a Norman town that isn't over-ryn by visitors, arriving at twilight that created a magical feeling to the ruins.

Thank you for your very generous review. We did enjoy the four of you staying with us and you were blessed with good weather which always helps. Hope you had a good remainder of your stay in Ireland and hope to see you again.

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Richard, in his wife's absence, and made to feel very privileged to be in such a wonderful location by the shores of an ancient township. The accommodation, home grown and prepared food and wine, the ambiance and the location all made for a wonderful stay in Lecarrow , Ireland.

Room Tip: The back blue room had the most spectacular view of the Lough.

Thank you for your very much appreciated review. We enjoyed looking after you. Hope you had a good remaining holiday. It's almost as hot here as Australia at the moment.

Hope the bread recipes worked. Any problems contact us at any time.

Best wishes

My boyfriend and I spent a night at St. John’s. Firstly, one night is not enough and now we know that when we head back there again it will be for longer. It is such a relaxing place. You are on the banks of Lough Ree in a beautiful house with very comfortable rooms ensuring a sound nights sleep. The bathroom we had had a large shower and lovely big bath. Breakfast was delish-the quality of the food here is excellent including eggs from the St. John’s hens! Richard is doing a lot to protect the medieval abandoned village at Rindoon. It was wonderful to sit and chat with him about the area and to hear about the conservation efforts to protect Rindoon and promote the history of the wider area. He has a great app on heritage sites in Roscommon which we will use next time we are in the area. This place is a gem!

We have traveled extensively throughout Ireland and can say we have found no better accommodation than those offered at St. Johns House, a gracious Georgian-style country home situated in the midst of Rinn Duin, an important piece of Ireland’s historic past. Hosts Richard and Liz Collins provide top-notch warmth, hospitality, tea, fresh cookies, and an outstanding full Irish breakfast. Be sure and ask Richard if he is making any “Blaa” that day and you’ll be treated to a wonderful little known Irish bread that is anything but. You can do no better than an overnight stay here; unless, of course, you decide to stay for several days to better absorb some wonderful memories of the rich Lecarrow region.

Thank you for such a generous review, Philip. We really enjoyed meeting you both and Susan's poem has received much attention on our FaceBook page. I do hope you will be able to come back to see us next time you are over in Ireland.

Richard has been busy perfecting his Blaa, but is also trying out different rye bread recipes at the moment.

Best wishes to you both
Liz

There is sea to west and east but the middle was great. The grounds are fun, reminds me of a kid, bring boots or they have. U can spend hours out door only to come Welcome.

Richard knows and is part of the historical society of surrunding hundred miles, Liz, poured a coup of tee, cooked great, and sorry to say she drove me down that crazy road to the red bar.

I missed them with my son in December, they must vacation also. Dublin at the O2 was fun

Sorry we missed you in December, John - I hope that's you wrtiting this? it would have been good to meet your son , too, but glad you had a good visit to the O2. We are officially open between April and the end of October, but will take visitors out of season if we are here, but as you rightly say, we take advantage of the down time to travel ourselves and catch up with our grandchildren in England. We had a great holiday this year in Costa Rica. I hope we catch you next time, and I will drive you to Coffeys for a pint or two!

We found this B&B by chance; the trip to this superb historical location was crowned by an extremely hospitable and warm experience with Richard & Liz. Totally uncomplicated, great breakfast with home made bread and cookies. Enormous room with a large double bed and bathroom with bath and separate shower; everything perfect.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pay the 5 Euro extra for the larger room.

I can absolutely endorse what others have written here. This is a unique and very idyllic location. Liz and Richard are attentive and charming hosts who provide delicious homemade cakes, jams, cookies, homegrown fruit, a wholesome breakfast and also go out of their way to deal with dietary restrictions. We were thrilled with our charming extra large room, bed and bath. Highest recommendation!

Thank you for your kind review, Rose Marie and delighted that you managed to contact us out on the lake! As we said at the time, we get very few 'walk-in' guests, but getting our number from Coffeys Bar was a good call. I hope you enjoyed the figs - wew are still trying out new ways of serving them.

Best wishes, Liz and Richard
