Owner description: Everyone has a dream. José Paronella’s dream became a reality. On 5 Hectares beside Mena Creek Falls he built his castle, picnic area by the falls, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel, and wrapped it up in an amazing range of 7,500 tropical plants and trees. He even harnessed the waterfall for his electricity. It opened to the public in 1935.Today, visitors to the park marvel at the achievements of one man. Admission to Paronella Park is valid for 12 months and covers all of the tours (a 45 minute guided walk that explains this extraordinary story & takes you through the highlights as well as the stunning Darkness Falls Tour where the castles and waterfall are flood-lit to allow for amazing photo opportunities). Admission also includes the souvenir guide book, fish food, umbrellas, access to the online photo gallery as well as a site for one night in the adjacent van park.

“Amazing Day out! Beautiful surrounds, fantastic staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

I regularly visit North Queensland and yet until today I had not visited Paronella Park, I have been missing out. Not only have owners Mark and Judy restored a magnificent historical attraction they have put together an amazing team.
We were greeted by Mark, the owner, in the car park and he engage in a friendly conversation before taking us in to the front desk to tell us about entry prices and validity, ( he provided us with a discount and the pass is valid for two years, which is great for us as we come up here regularly. But I can also see the benefit for tourist being able to come back at night to see the park in a different light.

We went on the 1100 tour and our tour guide was very knowledgable about the park and the surrounding areas, I think his name was Ying or something similar. He was patient and very accommodating, offering other guests to be driven between the upper and lower levels.

That said all the staff were very friendly.

Definitely a must for Northern Queensland!!

“Very unique experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

We were not sure what we were going to but would recommend this trip to others. If you have the time do a day and night time tour. Take the time to stay over in the camp ground and breakfast by the waterfall. The owner has as much passion for this property as if it were his dream and passion

“Amazing place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

The place is amazing, it's so worthwhile to participate in their guided tour, they explained very much in details about the place, makes it even more desirable. However, I must say the place is not as big as what you would expect for paying the admission fee, and toilet is not open to everyone, only the ones with a certain colored stickers, but I can understand is not easy for them to maintain the place. It's definitely worth for a visit, it's a very memorable place.

Thank you for your review - glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit!

I have to clarify that the toilets at Paronella Park are open to all Paronella Park customers. The coloured stickers you mention are simply our tickets, and we use different colours for different bus groups and different days of the week.

Thanks again.

“Paronella Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

Castle ruins amongst the forest. A must see if you love the rainforest and a bit of eccentric history. The gardens and grounds are very well maintained giving consideration to the weather patterns of far north Queensland. Guided tours leave every half an hour from the main building which houses a little cafe and gift shop. Paronella Park has a strong eco-friendly ethos and utilises the beautiful waterfall for hydro-power.
Much to admire and some truly stunning botanical photographs to add the collection.
