It was my second time to stay in Pearl Farm, but still, it never failed to surprise me.
It is worth the money you paid for. I love how the staff were very friendly and accomodating. The food was great and I enjoyed the movie night in Parola. I wish I coild back soon.

Pear Farm is the perfect place for people to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the city life..

We stayed at Samal House, a stilt house perched above water level.. The room could need some modernization as some fixtures show age and deterioration like the shower knob... For 8,000 +++ PHP per night, the price is stiff. WIFI and internet is not available at the room.

Buffet at the Maranao Restaurant is OK on the first day but it can get tiring when you're there on a longer stay.. Price is a little stiff, portions are big but food presentation needs improvement... A live band is playing on some nights and if you're into the "belting genre" then this is for you... However, if you want to have a cozy dinner with your loved one and you don't hear each other, this totally spoils the whole dining experience.

The staff who stood out most was Aldrin.. He was polite, service minded and even turned down our tip!! He said that the resort had started to impose the no tipping policy but it seemed that some of the staff missed the memo!!!

Room Tip: If you want to bathe in a little more discreet surroundings, book a boat at the Parola that will tak...

I believe that Pearl Farm is the best resort in Davao. However, it didn't quite impress me. We paid for 2500 pesos for a day tour on a Friday. This included the boat transfer from marina, welcome drink, lunch buffet and use of facilities. We had ocular in the rooms and they were just ok. The lunch buffet had enough selections. Taste was... again, just ok.

Pearl Farm is also somewhat small. I and my friends all agreed that the place offers very few things to do and staying overnight might be boring.

The beach, by the way, is clean.

The pictures on Pearl Farm's website attracted me to stay at their resort. Once I arrived at the resort I was a little more than disappointed. Costing around 5 times the average for the area, you would expect a little bit of luxury. I stayed in a Samal house which was essentially a cantina. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept upon, and it contained no sheets. The room was covered in ants, the air conditioner was too small for the room, the tv was smaller than my laptop, and you could watch roaches scurry off when you opened the door. The shower in my room was broken, as was the lock on the door. The shower was fixed, but nothing was done about the other issues.

The restaurant was even more disappointing than the room. Breakfast cost around $18, lunch around $26 and the price on dinner varied; the quality of the food would earn maybe 1 star. Since the restaurant was the only place you could have a glass of clean water without having to pay a dollar, and you aren't aloud to bring in food or drinks, it was the only option. Every round trip to or from the resort cost around $18 per person, and a 40 minute ride in a makeshift boat in choppy seas doesn't do much for the appetite. The only other travel route is an 18km ride on the back of a scooter over a dirt and rock road.
There are both a spa and watersports vendor on the resort. The fees for these activities are only around 3 times the local prices, so it isn't as bad of a deal.
I left the resort after 4 days and stayed in Davao city. The grand regal hotel was only $50 for the night. It boasts a nice casino, large room in a safer part of town, friendly staff, and has close proximity to Davao shopping centers, food, and other entertainment.
There are many hotels cheaper but I cannot vouch for any other. Food in Davao runs around $1-$8 per person depending on what you eat. There are tours to all the beaches and islands from many places in the city. You can't enjoy Davao from Samal Island, but you CAN enjoy Samal Island from Davao.

i've been to pearl farm many many times, for almost 10 years there is no improvement/s, only thing that has improved is the use of electric car compare to before there are using multicab, other than that NO MORE. and the food is TOOO..oo salty, my balikbayan guest even jokingly said maybe the cooked dropped a handful of salt by mistake. no worth my $700 room accommodation.

Room Tip: go for a day tour, overnight stay is not worth. go for a la carte if you dont want to eat salt.

We went there for a day trip on a weekday so we got a rate of P1950 / head inclusive of boat ride, buffet lunch and swimming.

The beach was clean. Very nice location. But looking at the accommodations like what some of the reviews here it looks dilapidated from the outside, not sure about the inside.

Buffet selection was good. Good experience but a bit pricey for what you get for that amount of money.

Pearl farm was the place that got me thinking of Davao as a destination. I was under the impression that it might be the only good palce in Samal to stay (thanks to the poor ammount of info put on the net by bloggers).

After reading more (and after getting a heart attack reading the prices of rooms here!), I realised there are loads of other equally great resorts to stay in Samal garden island (the official map shows 30+ resorts!) and chose Hof Gorei. excellent place - review elsewhere.

But we still wanted to SEE pearl farm, so we made a day trip here.

Pros -
beautiful place, nice gardens, crystal clear waters

Cons -
Terribly expensive (not value for money imho), too crowded (too many tourists)

Final verdict -
Skip it, go to a better reasonably priced resort
