“Superb location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

We stayed two nights in the Ol Tukai. Great location, lots of elephants and lions.
Very nice accommodations, ideal for families with children as you can book family rooms.
The food was good and there was enough choice to satisfy the children.

Regrettably I cannot join other guests in praise over the lodge as such: booking was difficult, pricing unclear, dining-room crowded and very mediocre food, not so service-minded staff - a great exemption was medical staff on duty when I fell sick the first night of three, a sorry proof was the staff that charged extra for every sip and crumb, when I could not drag myself to the eatery-area.
A consolation was the stunning view from the hut and especially when I could sit out on the veranda. And our driver!
(I wrote along these lines above, and with the same title, rather soon after our stay in Ambosely, but it seems that that review was never accepted?)

Room Tip: Choose a hut with Mountain view - you will see the elephants anyway, and not be so bothered by kitch...

Loved our stay at ol tukai! Peter and William were wonderful, helpful and couldn't do enough to make us comfortable...both are true assets to the lodge and should be managers! Lodge was beautiful and I'm so happy we had the pleasure of staying there.....

Our second lodge on our Safari and as enjoyable as Kilaguni. Stayed here two nights with some good game drives. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of the park the other side of the (electrified) wire fence. Kilimajaro sunrise and sunset made it special and it dominates the landcape. It was visible all the time we were there.
Polite staff, towels and juice on arrival and friendly porters who were interested in where you were from.
Restaurant was good with plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner catering for most tastes although the hot food was usually just warm unless cooked on the spot like stir fry. As with all eating places it is noisy when full and most are this time of year and we still hadn't encountered the Chinese.
It's great place for Mossies so use repellent frequently.

Room Tip: The rooms nearest the fence get the good views as animals sometimes come quite near.

Three hours drive from Nairobi saw us at The Ol Tukai Lodge, our first stop of our 10 day Wildlife Safari in Kenya,
This beautiful lodge is located inside the Amboseli National Park with Mount Kilimanjaro overlooking the complex on one side and surrounded by wildlife all around.
A pleasant welcome awaits you with a hot towel to clean and a chilled juice to quench your thirst while you are led to comfortable seats to complete the check in formalities. Check in is fast and efficient,
Rooms consist of cottage blocks which have 4 rooms in each block with seperate and independent entrances. There is a small porch in front of each room with chairs and a small table where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings. The room itself is decent sized with a comfortable bed . There is a large mosquito net falling around the bed which helps keep the mosquitoes out and certainly helpful for those who can get claustrophic with a small net. The bathroom is nice and has a large shower area with showers that work effectively. One side of the bathroom has a large clear glass window overlooking a small enclosure where you can often see babboons and birds. Strangely the wash basin is outside the bathroom and inside the room.
There are some cottages that face Mount Kilimanjaro and on a clear day you can have a beautiful view of the mountain. Our room 77 had an excellent view . We were lucky to have clear days when we were there. Cottages on the other side of the lodge have superb views of wildlife like zebras and elephants just outside the perimeter.
Breakfast is good with a decent variety on offer. Dinner and lunch which has a fair amount of Indian cusine however could do with some improvement . The hotel should also review it's policy of not serving water with the meals - you need to buy it ! A little strange when you are on full board and does provide water in the rooms.

Overall a great resort as a base for your game drives into the fascinating Amboseli National Park.

I would strongly recommend the Ol Tukai Lodge to anyone visiting Amboseli.

Room Tip: Choose rooms facing Mount Kilimanjora for a great view. Recommend room 77.

This was the first stop on our safari for our honeymoon. The staff were very welcoming and service was always great. The room was very comfortable and looked out toward Mt. Kilimanjaro (it was too cloudy to see but we were assured it was there!). The food was great and there was plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The monkeys roamed around the grounds quite happily and you could often see other animals in the surrounding fields. Didn't get to try the pool but it looked well kept.

Excellent stay at this lodge. First vacation where I was surrounding by wildlife during the day & night and did not have 1 mosquito bite! I had a mountain view room but elephants, monkeys, baboons, zebra, wildebeest, & various other animals are at the fence line. The monkeys & baboons were on the grounds, your porch, & pathway. The grounds have security everywhere on the grounds. Some times you see them, other times they appear when you least expect them. The rooms dont have phones but you can request wake up calls from the front desk & someone knocks on your door. Also I did not request help with baggage & on checkout morning as I was exiting the door a porter appeared with a bright smile & greeting to assist. They walk the sidewalks during different times ready to assist the guest with any needs. Flashlights & mosquito nets are provided. There is a fire pit for the evenings. The locals from the Masai mara tribe visit the hotel for a close up. The food was tasty. There was a bar, very nice pool, massage area, but internet access was limited to the lobby area. Water is provided in your hotel room. For meals if you want water there is a low fee $2.50. I observed many people purchasing the liters & leaving them on the table. A huge waste especially when you pass through areas where children are drinking from rain puddles. Everyone I encountered here was very pleasant & genuinely happy that you chose to stay with them. The rooms were comfortable. For hot water press the button at the entrance to the shower. Water was hot & the shower was nice with comfy towels. They provided nice toiletry amenities as well. They use solar power. The views were beautiful at all times. During the night you can hear animals. It was a wonderful stay.
