“A fabulous place to stay in Africa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

In the heart of the amboseli national wildlife park. Great place to stage your morning and afternoon game drives. Service and personnel are par excellence! For the money you can't go wrong! Rooms look out over the savanah where you can see elephant walk by!

We stayed at the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge for a two night three day visit. I have been to Kenya 5 times and traveled to most national parks. The Serena was the nicest place I have been to yet. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were great. The decor was genuine and tasteful. The staff was very kind and helpful, even when my wife got a ill. The food was bountiful and the bar/lounge very relaxing. I would highly recommend staying here and will return again in the future.

I have spent a lot of time at this resort over the years. I worked with a Maasai village right next to the lodge and frequented the Serena about once a month for almost a year. This place is fabulous. From the uniquely decorated rooms to the beautiful landscape to the delicious food. I do not have one bad thing to say about this place. When my parents visited me in Kenya I brought them here and they were blown away. The staff is great and always welcoming and the spa is a great way to spoil yourself! I highly recommend Amboseli & the Serena to anyone traveling to Kenya!

Really enjoyed our time here, well positioned in the park near the entrance and good hotel layout. Great size rooms with rear verandas and lots of wildlife to watch. All meals served in the restaurant were plentiful and of a good variety. Evening Masai dancing was fun and especially enjoyed the monkeys everywhere including the pool! Would recommend this resort highly.

Room Tip: Try for one closer to reception.

Stayed at the Safari Lodge for a few days in February and thoroughly enjoyed the location, food, service and accommodation.

Very well thought out decor and facilities, but the best aspect was the helpful staff. nothing was too much trouble and a constant smile was almost part of the uniform. The layout and gardens created exactly the right ambiance, and the resident monkeys provided daily entertainment. One of our party had a sore throat, and I gave him a packet of "Lockets" throat sweets. One of the resident monkeys must have been suffering from the same ailment, as he swooped down from his tree and "borrowed" them from the table by the pool where they had been placed. He probably enjoyed the honey, but I am not sure about the menthol!

Must mention the stir fry available at lunch and dinner. Just select a plate of finely sliced ingredients, hand them to the chef who cooks it while you wait, with chicken, beef or other meat, together with a sauce of your choice. Delicious.

Slightly surprised to be offered a glass of champagne when entering the restaurant for breakfast! What a good idea, even if a bit decadent at 7.30 in the morning!

Pool and accommodation excellent and as already stated the service of drinks etc was first class. The lodge made our visit to Amboseli a great and memorable experience. First class.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We stayed at the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge for a few days in April, 2013. Having stayed at Serena establishments before, we were looking forward to the splendid service, lovely rooms and a restful stay. We were not disappointed.

The Amboseli Serena is located about 7 kms from the nearby Ol Tukai Lodge, about 37 kms from the main smooth and spanking new Emali-Loitoktok Road.

Upon arrival at the lodge we were heartily welcomed and presented with the ubiquitous cold glass of juice and refreshing towel, before being escorted to our rooms. The rooms are wonderful, big inviting bed, clean, functional and well equipped bathrooms, and a door leading to the adjoining room for the kids. There are master switches to enable you to switch on or off all lights from your bed. The usual Serena standards are very well maintained in the room furnishings and facilities.

The pool was small and free form, more than adequate for our needs and enjoyment. We loved the restaurant food choices and felt that all needs were accommodated to the satisfaction of ourselves and our two children.

The hotel reception also provided us with some much needed free wifi.

We had only two regrets, that inexplicably the lodge was built with the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro behind it, and that it was the rainy season, so we were not fortunate to see much wild game. To see the mountain, one has to go to the outer edge of the parking lot, not very convenient for those anticipating a beautiful early morning mountain sighting with a cup of coffee of better yet, breakfast in front of you.

The early morning loud discussions of the housekeeping staff outside the rooms woke us up earlier than we would have wished, I hope the management can speak to them to keep their voices low and presence unobtrusive.

Otherwise, the vast majority of staff led by the affable Lodge Manager Herman are warm, welcoming and efficient, and we would not hesitate to recommend this lodge to anyone. Next time we will go in the dry season!

Simply put, the staff made us feel at home. well hidden by the vegetation surrounding it, it gives a cosy, private mood, as if in your own backyard. The spa treatments are relaxing and the pool well maintained.

Great rooms, Great Meals, Great Service
