“Mad Rock, Bay Roberts NL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Fabulous coastline views, great photo opportunity for both scenery and if you have a timer or tripod for your camera you can great portrait shots with the wonderful shaped and textured rocks! Also, able to get to shoreline up close and personal. Then you can alos go to the Mad Rock cafe which serves a wonderful and delicious breakfast ALL day long. Good value for you money. Spectacular ocean shots, historic little red outhouse at beginning of Mad Rock walking trail, ability to view "shag" birds or cormorants as is their proper names- sunning themselves with wings outspread drying themselves and taking in the sun!

“360 degree views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

This is a beautiful place to visit at anytime of the year. My favorite is the summers months when you can see and hear the whales. There are stairs to some of the beaches and you can walk down to others. The cliff with the waves crashing on the rock below is beautiful. The prairie grass grows right up to the dark blue/black rocks mixed with purple stones. The trail is a couple km and is a dirt path with hills. A great walk next to the water. Plan for a breeze. :)

“Majestic surf or serene beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

This is a must visit place for me in any season but summer has to be the best. On sunny days the views are amazing. The water is sparkling blue and many boats in harbour. Fresh sea air...what more could you ask for? Look across the bay at mad rock and you can see bell island. Can you believe folks used to walk there across the ice in the winter? Highlights of hike would be picking blueberries in august, peering very carefully over the cliff into a little place called the gulch, and relaxing on the rocky beach at mad rock. I dont think you are supposed to remove anything from area as it is a historic site but the rocks are amazing. Perfectly smooth, every color, also look for "osie eggs",sea urchin shells and the occasional starfish. Mad rock is a group of rocks off shore that when the sea is rough and the tide is coming in produce the most awesome waves you'll ever see. On calm days its not as majestic but worth the trip. There are several access points to the trail but easiest is to drive out to the point at mad rock. Stop at the three sisters and walk down the steps to a beach across from bishops cove shore and island cove. One time we were lucky enough to see caplin rolling on the beach and another time we had great pixs of the kids in front of a huge berg. I could go on forever as this is one of my favorite places... Dont forget to stop at mad rock cafe for ice cream. their lunch is good too...love the pea soup.
