“Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012

An overpriced room for an overpriced town. The room was clean, with air-con and a large TV, but it was not worth the price for a single night

This motel has one of the rudest receptionists I have ever had the displeasure of talking too. Seriously she should be fired !

The staff are unhelpful and make you feel like you’re imposing on them. I have never been treated so disrespectfully by customer service workers in my life (and that includes Telstra telemarketers !)

Don’t waste your time or money!

We got a great rate through wotif for a standard queen room, though we were given a twin (not that I'm complaining at all!). The "block" containing our room a collection of separate free standing buildings, each housing 2 rooms with double carports attached which made for a quiet stay.

The room itself was clean, comfortable & modern, with split system air conditioning, a large LCD TV, digital TV & Austar, a reasonable size desk for business travelers, small dining table & chairs, mini bar and a full size bath with shower over in the bathroom.

There was a very small concreted area out the back which served as a patio (for us smokers) although there was no outdoor furniture, and there was only room for both of the dining chairs if one of you sat in the hot exhaust air from the split system unit also on the patio. The only other option was to move out of the shade & into the small grassy area beyond or stand in the front carport with no privacy, but it's certainly fine for short stays.

My only real complaints would be that the restaurant is closed Saturday nights, also no room service that night either, so no dinner available at the hotel on a Saturday night unless you order in take away from elsewhere. T here's also no breakfast available on a Sunday morning on site either. And if you're staying on the weekend, and planning on packing your own breakfast,t here were just coffee mugs & a teaspoon in the room so I'd recommend packing some basic cutlery & crockery too. However, the hotel is in an excellent location, just a short walk from several dining options (including China's Restaurant - best spring rolls ever!), so it's definitely not a major downside.

With friendly, helpful staff more typical of a small country town hotel that wants your repeat business, rather than your typical mining town hotel that doesn't need it, I would definitely stay there again & would happily recommend it to anyone.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

I spent one night at the Western Heritage at Moranbah last week, staying there for the second time (having previously stayed there in 2004). The rooms were roomy and comfortable, clean and well presented. The hotel includes under cover car parking in front of each unit, which is beneficial in the midday heat of Moranbah.

The room featured a well stocked mini bar, and was a very comfortable "home away from home", with a back sliding door looking out to the swimming pool. The hotel has a large bar and restaurant on the premises, where we ate for dinner and breakfast.

The restaurant was a let down - my entree was supurb (a risotto), however the main course (duck) was overcooked and a bit tough. The service in the restaurant was indifferent and didn't match the high standard of the rest of the hotel. The prices were akin to a fine dining restaurant, however with the exception of the entree, the food and service standard did not match the prices.

I would be happy to stay at Western Heritage again, however I would pick an alternative place to dine in future. The accommodations themselves are excellent and I can happily recommend them.

A positive feature is that this hotel does not charge any credit card surcharges. I find it deplorable that hotels can enjoy more benefits of credit card use than most other industries (booking guarantees, pre-authorisations, charging for no-shows, charging for late charges, avoiding large cash transactions) where at the same time the industry has been one of the most bullish industries in Australia to introduce credit card surcharges. Well done to Western Heritage for not introducing any surcharges.
