“A good funky choice in a near ghost town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

Raetihi must be New Zealand's most run down town; its appearance and and empty shops are a national disgrace. Angel Louise lights up the gloom. Good service, nice, if limited selection of cabinet food ( but smashing carrot cake), good coffee and loose leaf pot of tea. It must be tough doing a good job in such an environment. Owners and staff deserve support. Tip: Make sure you take time to visit the very iconic Ratana church.

“Great breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Thank you very much, we had a very breakfast here on our way from Tongariro National Park to Whanganui. I had a chicken something with layers of potato, pancake, mushroom, spinach and others. I liked it very much!

“Good cafe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

We visited Angel Louise on a Sunday morning, for a short break from driving. There was delicious looking home made items in the display cabinet, and we ordered a custard square and a large date scone. These were great examples of country style home baking. We were served with nice coffee. The service was a little slow, given that the cafe was not busy, but we were not in any rush, and enjoyed reading the local newspaper. We would happily go there again..

“Worst service and food!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Was hoping for some good old fashioned hospitality but was there a few days ago and the service was absolutely appalling, we tried to be friendly but the woman who served us could not manage a smile, would not answer our questions, in fact we are just an inconvenience to her. Luckily everyone else we have dealt with in NZ have been really friendly and helpful.

“Warm and toasty!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

This is a wee hidden jewel in Raetihi's fading crown... fortunately while the rest of the town appears in dire need of a pick-me-up, Angel Louise continues to please. It's a scenic hour's drive from Wanganui in one direction and to Taumarunui in the north probably about the same . As you are coming in from Wangas (south, heading north) turn left at the main junction, at the turnoff to Ohakune (on the right).
Look for the wind flag/banner that is up on the left hand side, about 1/2 way down the main thoroughfare...
I love the rustic feel, the time-worn outlook and the appeal of hot chocolate, latte or choice of beverage waiting for you when you need a break and a leg stretch. They do takeout if you really need to rush away but take my word for it, take your time, embrace the stillness and if it's a fine day - grab a local paper and enjoy the garden and tables out the back. The fare on the menu is appetising and there is enough of a choice to please everyone's palate. I have to say the cake, scones and muffins are just like Mum used to bake.
