“Wonderful welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012 via mobile

The 4 SARS is justified by the wonderful welcome, more than by the room or the food.
Comfortable, clean and well appointed, but bathrooms show the age.
Food is supposed to be wonderful and we indeed had a good diner. Problem is that in the middle of July chef was out and we had no choice! That this happens out of season, we can understand, but not in July!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2011

We spent one night at La Posada de la Mesta and we felt that it was not enough time to enjoy the site. Unfortunately it was our last day of vacations...The posada is splendid, Jordi and his team they all do a fantastic and proffessional job. You won't miss anything of a 5 star-class hotel. In fact, in some aspects the Posada is better than a hotel. I highly recommend you to have diner in the place, don''t look around for restaurants; in my opinion, is the best (and most romantic) option you can have. Try the fried eggs with truffles, they are delicious.
Jordi, thanks for your hospitality and also for the beer form Valladolid ("Celio"), it tasted great!.

Room Tip: All rooms are perfect. Each of them has its own character and style.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2008

Real Posada de la Mesta is a well rated manor house in a small Spanish village, Molinos de Duero, which is just about the source of the River Duero.

It has been under previous owners, one of the top 5 Posadas in Spain. The new (they have owned it for 2 years) French owners are charming, but perhaps have not quite captured the zizz that it must have had before.

Lovely bedrooms with stone walls, and a wealth of public rooms downstairs. However they lacked warmth both in real and perceived sense. The wood fires were not lit while we were there for 2 nights, and the heating in the rooms only operated for a brief period each night. They were not the sort of places one wanted to loiter after dinner.

Dinner was strange too. There is a multi-course degustation menu (45€ a head). All the plates were cold, so the food was too. A particularly good foie gras was followed by a particularly bad lamb dish (3 paper thin cutlets with more fat then meat). All was served at lightening speed. The waitress did not seem too concerned about our problems with the meal or the speed of service.

We went on a fascinating wild mushroom trip that they organised (20€ a head). It was in Spanish as all the guests were Spanish, which we appreciated, but an English speaking monoglot may not have appreciated it.

Another odd thing was that we could not book on the web. They insisted we phoned, again one could have the language problem with phoning. An when we did phone, were told they were busy dealing with another client, and could we phone back in 10 minutes.

So a strange mix of pluses and minuses. And it was expensive in terms of "value for money". We did quite like it, because of the character of the building. If we did return, we would probably skip their restaurant and try eating out in the only other place in the village, apart from that there is no local alternative.
